MixTape is a simple, beautiful and easy to learn application for making beat matched mixes.
By simply drag dropping the music you already have in iTunes (or from the finder), MixTape adds detected tempo and beats. Tracks are then dragged onto a workspace where they now "snap to grid" along their beats and play in sync. Precisely in sync. The live UI means you can always hear what's underneath the playhead as if it were recorded on magnetic tape and waveform images mean you can see the music in front of you. Finally automated volume and HiLo controls add that all important final polish to your creations.
Mixes can then be exported at a configurable bitrate back into iTunes to play on your Mac, iPod or iPhone; or exported losslessly.
You can even compose your mixes live - simply cue up your first track, start the live stream then continue to use your headphones to mix as usual. The live stream will also emit midi so lighting or VJ rigs can be kept in sync with the music as it is played.
Far simpler than either an audio workstation or a DJ app, MixTape embraces the Mac aesthetic to blend in perfectly with your desktop. Finally a short series of video tutorials emphasise 'show' over 'tell' to show what can be done and how.
Used by DJ's, gym instructors and just ordinary people... we mix our own music and you can too.

Easy way to make long mixes
I use MixTape Pro to make long party mixes. I was able to make a 3 hour mix for a party I was having, and it worked great. I mostly like it because it allows me to change the BPM which makes it possible to beatmatch, and adjust volume levels to easily fade in and fade out songs. I recommend watching the tutorial videos before getting started.
Innovative Simplicity & Easy Fun
This is the type of Mac app I was looking for. I wanted to simply make a custom mix of songs. My technical experience is via multi-track recording and editing, not live DJ mixing. Hence, this simple format using grids/tracks is more intuitive for me to use to create an easy mix. I have tested it and the beat matching works great, even for complex tracks! I tried doing something similar in GarageBand and the beat matching was a train wreck, no matter what I tried. GarageBand was designed to beat match loops, not entire imported songs. If you're looking to create a simple track mashup or your own "DJ" mix of songs without recording live, this is a great option. I love the newly updated support for Dark Mode. I hope the developer continues to expand and support this app as there are not a lot of options in this area. Thanks Atomic Droplet!
Fantastic! Finally found what I was looking for.
This tool lets you "visually" mix your music by overlapping waveforms, adjusting tempo, and adjusting individual waveform volume. I was able to create my first mix in just a few minutes and it sounded great. Imports directly into iTunes as well.
