Meh

I’m somewhat disappointed with the information section. It’s lacking in many respects and is frighteningly milquetoast regarding your first, fourth and fifth amendments. And most surprisingly not a single word on second amendment rights which is probably the one most likely to get you shot during a police encounter. You guys gotta update the info section. Maybe some info video links to learn how to interact with police. I mean, that’s the whole point of the app, right?

No option to test drive without alerting emergency contacts

I downloaded this app as a “just in case” thing to have on my phone. I had read reviews that some people had problems recording, so I tried recording a test 2-second video just to see what the controls were, and if it still records if you lock your phone (it doesn’t). I immediately got a panicked call from my emergency contact asking if I was okay. “Uh? Yeah? I’m just sitting here on my couch.” They told me that the ACLU texted them that I was involved in an incident. I had no clue, and there was no notification to me!

I really want to love what the ACLU is doing here, but so many things in this app (like the example above) indicate it received minimal or zero UX research.

Failed Miserably

When I downloaded this app I honestly thought that I would never have to use it. But, I did have to today and it failed BIG TIME! The app was slow in responding and the video freezes preserving only the audio in part. Huge chunks of the beginning of the video are missing. I do like the fact that it did notify my contacts right away. I intend to file charges against the officer but am worried that the video take here will be of any value. Going forward I will only use the built in camera without this app. One final point/question: why isn’t the video available in my downloads? ACLU: please pull this app. It is a huge disservice to the public. Also, the support link here goes to a non-existent website. Apple: ???
