Excellent app with a few minor annoyances
Without some kind of "have I done this?" app, my chaotic schedule makes a "daily routine" almost impossible. Momentum is the best I’ve found so far - it’s simple and convenient.
There are a few nuisances you should be aware of before you start using it. In order of annoyance level:
- There’s no functionality for reordering habits, so if you care about the order (e.g. daily with daily and weekly with weekly), you’d better put everything in up front.
- When adding habits, sometimes the new habit will "swap" with one earlier in the list. I’m not yet sure what triggers this.
- When updating habit names, sometimes the update won’t "take" - if you don’t click elsewhere in the Momentum panel after changing the name, it may reset after the first time you close and reopen the app.
- As you use it over several months, the horizontal scrolling will gradually slow down. The only way to fix this is to reset the starting date and truncate your history.
I haven’t had the chance to use this app much. It stopped me in the middle of checking things off to try to get me to give a review. I had just finished entering the more than 100 habits, routines, rituals, etc that I plan to track. Here are my notes so far: I am on a Mac and it would be preferable for me to be able to launch the app from the dock rather the tool bar. It would also be better if the app didn’t quit anytime you did something else. I was trying to cut and paste from my notes but each time I went to my notes, Momentum quit and I had to re-open it so I wasn’t able to cut and paste. It would be great if you could re-arrange your goals or habits or whatever. As it is, if you want to change the order of something you have to re-enter everything from that part down. I was looking forward to using this app. I will probably give it another review after I get the chance to use it.
I tried so many other habit trackers and this one is my favorite
I tried all the habit trackers out there, and I’ve been tracking habits for years. Momentum is the app I keep coming back to. Even though it seems it’s not getting updates right now (presumably the creators are busy doing other things), the app is the simplest and most straightforward compared to others, and it’s exactly what I need for tracking habits. I can’t stand the bells and whistles on other apps. Momentum is visually pleasing, easy to use, syncs to mac desktop, and affordable. I’m very happy with it and I sincerely hope it does not get neglected for too long if it needs updates in the future. I’ll keep using this app for as long as it’s around.
