Overall it’s just OK. Not worth the asking price. There’s a longstanding bug that completely locks the UI up after viewing a full screen photo. This is random and doesn’t happen all the time but when it happens, it requires a relaunch, or backgrounding. Also the replies to some posts just don’t load, even if I choose to “Load from Remote Server.” The count is correct but the replies don’t load. Toot! works, so it should work here, also. The app doesn’t use some of the server-provided/enabled features. For example, the private notes and mute/block lists are app-only, while the server has support. This means that if I add some note to an account, I can only see it in this app. Or if I mute someone, they’re only muted here.
I had to call Apple accessibility so that I could get a little assistance visual wise with this app. When you find a persons profile, their picture, along with their followers, who they follow, and the follow button are all in one box. Voiceover is not able to read the follow button. You have to swipe left to the more button, then swipe right to the send a request button to the follower you want to follow. When you turn, voiceover off, the button shows up as blue. When you turn voiceover on the button shows up as gray. Voiceover is not reading this. Other than that small complaint, this app is very good. I recommend it to anyone who wants to use this app.
I love that you can either pay for one app, (iPhone, iPad, or Mac), or pay one price and have an app for iPhone, iPad, AND Mac. The customization seems to be immense. The only problem is that you can’t try any of it until you either sign up for a 14 day trial of the Pro Max version (includes iPhone, iPad, and Mac), or actually pay for an individual version (iPhone, iPad, or Mac). You can’t even favorite or boost a post. You can comment, but to decide whether to pay that price, there needs to be a more expansive demo mode. I don’t like having to sign up for a 14 day trial period for all three devices, If I only want one for my phone. In order to try all of the features on different device types, there is the potential to forget to cancel the trial, and get charged.
I tried every single Mastodon app that wasn’t subscription-based and this is by far the best. It’s fast, sleek, stable, and super customizable, and unlike some others out there, it also works flawlessly with Pleroma instances. Absolute gem, I bought the Pro Max upgrade within a week or two and haven’t regretted it once. The only feature I miss is the ability to emoji react on servers that support it (i.e. Pleroma). Dev, if you’re reading this, I’ll definitely send you a big tip if you can make it happen. Can provide details via email if necessary, but take a look at how Soapbox handles it, that’s basically what I have in mind.Either way, thanks for your amazing work.
I’ve tried a lot of the Mastodon iOS apps but this one is my favorite. Not only is it very smooth and fast, it looks great too, with a user interface that matches the look and feel of the operating system. The closest comparison to Mona is perhaps Ice Cubes, but that app has a lot of bloat to the UI and feels a bit slower. Also, Mona allows more customization than any of the apps I tried.Best thing? No stupid monetization model. I gladly paid for the Pro Max version of this app to get it on all my Apple devices. And since it’s a one time fee, I can enjoy it as long as I want and not have to worry about paying monthly like some other apps. Big thumbs up from me.
This app is so polished and works near flawlessly. The only thing I struggle with is when post have a lot of comments. Mona only shows the first comment for replies, and for the rest you have to tap through. It’s really painful when there are lots of comment branches.I hope they consider threaded comments that are all shown hierarchically all on the same page. Basically like Reddit and similar comments are organised. Wolly does an excellent job in this respect (although is less polished in most others).
