POTENTIAL

I’m migrating from Windows-based Quicken to Mac (years of transaction history to import). I’ve searched the App Store a good while for an app that I could feel comfortable with (functionally and design). After testing the Lite version of MoneyVault, I was very impressed with the functions that were available. However, the one feature that I could not evaluate and is only available in the paid version is the ability to import QIF files (Quicken files). I was apprehensive about paying the $9.99 in case it didn’t work well, but I went ahead and did it based of how well the rest of my experience had gone with the Lite version. Unfortunately, it was a FAIL.

1.) The wizard that walks you thru the import process validates the date format of your existing files with 4 different options, but surprisingly doesn’t offer the common option of MM/DD/YYYY. It offers other variations (that seem to be European formats). So immediately you get a “Date Format Error”….well of course you do, because the options are limited. :-/ But what this does is automatically assigns the current day’s date to ALL OF YOUR TRANSACTION HISTORY. How unuseful is that??? So to get the benefits of using my 9000+ transactions of historic data, I would have to manually go thru each imported transaction to correct the date??? Really???

2.) Additionally, after creating the Export file from Quicken for Windows, (yes I did designate the file was for a Mac computer) while importing, the data mapping for each field of a given transaction were incorrect and/or missing. Multiple transactions displayed amounts as $0.00 and simply omitted fields and misplaced other fields (Example: placing the Payee into the Notes/Reference field).

So just based on these two issues alone, the Import feature is useless for my situation, even though I paid $9.99 solely for the ability to import. Hmmmm.

I do believe this application will be exceptional if the import feature is corrected. It’s a great app if you are just starting to use financial management software, but if you expect to be able to use your existing historical data, forget it (at least if you’re migrating from a Windows version of Quicken). Hopefully, I will be able to increase my rating after future updates, but for now, I’m pretty disappointed.
