Nice app for Montessorians!
I will say that I also believe these Montessorium,LLC apps are overpriced, or should do more. But I am very impressed at how consistent these activities are to the real-life works. They move from concrete to abstract, just as in the classroom. Very easy to use for little fingers (except for dragging to target, see comment below). Love the variety for my rising preK, and review for my K. My suggestions that I am sure you are capable of: need teens works, not just 1-10. Create different levels for patterning. Where are the bead chains? Please add these. The dragging an object tasks are very particular for little fingers.
I have been wondering how some of the montessori-type educational theory would play out on an ipad and now i totally get it! Soothing on the eyes and ears, these activities hit a different chord than a lot of the math apps for kids I have downloaded so far, filling a gap and rounding out my math app collection nicely. More about getting a feel for the concept of numbers instead of memorizing the algorithms and winning a game. Daughter sticks w it and enjoys the variety of activities, I am glad each activity has at least a couple of levels.
I really really hope to see more advanced concepts from this developer, would buy them in a heartbeat as daughter is ready for more of a challenge.
Hey, developers: one improvement: my daughter has played quite a bit, has mastered some of the easier steps in each level, and usually gets bored doing what she already knows, then quits before getting to the harder part. For example, number counters - she is totally ready for the odd even tracing, but gets sick of placing all of the counters for every number up til that part of the activity. Can you make it possible to jump to the section of the activity that you want to play with? She is sick of repeating the easy stuff, could do it in her sleep...
Quality source material + quality programming = great app
I'm a fan of Montessori style education primarily because of the responsibility it places on the child to learn simply by providing an interesting, educational environment. This app does just that. As a webpage designer/programer I was sold on the quality of the app, but to be able to hand my phone to my 3-yr old and have him on his own go through each exercise was just amazing. He was beaming and turning to look at me every once and a while to say "This is so fun, Daddy." As good as the these Montessori exercises are, this app could have easily been a failure (despite how pretty it is) if it didn't provide an intuitive way for children to explore each exercise on their own. Seeing the confidence in my son's face as he figures things out is just wonderful. It really looks great on my iPhone, but I would love to see it on an iPad. I could almost justify finally buying an iPad just for this app (and the Intro to Letters which is coming soon).
