Morphi is a simple, powerful and easy to learn 3D design and modeling app used to create and edit 3D designs for AR/VR, 3D Printing, Animation, Game Design, Graphic Design, Design Thinking, Storytelling and more. Morphi participates in Apple's Volume Purchase Program, entitling purchasers to a 50% discount on Morphi purchases on 20+ Macs ($4.99 per Mac). Try our iPad apps too!
Requirements: Morphi for Mac has the following technical requirements+recommendations. To check your Mac, select "About this Mac" from the Apple menu in your menu bar.
macOS 10.14 Mojave (or higher) recommended
macOS 10.13.6 High Sierra supported
macOS 10.12.6 Sierra can launch, but may not meet standards because cannot run later versions of Metal, Apple's graphics program used in Morphi
MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, MacPro, Mac Mini: from 2012 onwards
Every day people of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels use Morphi to create, sketch, invent, prototype, visualize, teach, tell stories, explain ideas and much more. Vertical drip irigation farming system prototypes, assistive drawing devices, model rocket parts, biodesign lighting, casings for robots + electronics, compostable couture gowns, characters for animated shorts, bubblewands, jewelry, cookie and pottery cutters, plates for printmaking and immersive augmented reality artwork. Theses are some of the thousands of projects designed by members of our community in over 120 countries since Morphi was released on iPad in 2014.
Morphi has many tools to empower people to more easily express, remix and evolve their ideas in 3D, including:
-Design anywhere without logins or a WiFi connection.
-Sketch and draw 3D models, including using freehand, straight lines and 2D shapes to draw, symmetry, revolving lines, erasing lines, vector drawing + editing with control points + other 2D to 3D tools.
-Transform high contrast images (jpgs + pngs) into editable 3D designs.
-Robust CAD + 3D modeling tools, including intersect, group, merge, copy, align, tapping copy, arrays and other tools for creating more complex designs.
-Add texture/materials to 3D designs using your images or videos.
-Highlight your 3D designs with quick lighting options.
-Import and editing/remixing of 3D models (currently files only) from all other 3D modeling apps.
-Export STL models for Augmented Reality viewing, editing + interacting on our Morphi iPad apps (separate, one time $9.99 inapp purchase required) or export models for VIRTUAL REALITY viewing on your favorite AR/VR devices like Hololens, Occulus and Merge Cube.
-Easy export of STL and OBJ files for 3D printing following printer/printing service guidelines. 3D printers vary, but generally the file is uploaded to the printer's slicing software for printing.
-Easy export of STL and OBJ files for use in game design, animation, for further editing in other 3D modelers.
-Simple 3D lithophane tool to create 3D printed etchings and terrain.
-Change the background and grid to create more engaging scenes or export 3D designs with transparent backgrounds for graphic design or green background for green screen projects.
-Save files directly to your Mac or to your third party storage solutions.
-Quickly teach yourself to design in 3D with our short, helpful video tutorials and other support under the About Morphi section in the top toolbar.
-Incredible community of designers, educators, students, artists, entrepreneurs, inventors and others using the app.

Ratings and Reviews
Better than most for basic 3D printer designs
This app obviously has some bugs, so save often. It also doesn’t have seperate “Save” and “Save As” options for your editable .morphi files, so you need to copy your save file and rename it manually if you want to create and save several variations of the same basic design. However, for someone who is just building models for 3D printing and who doesn’t need the more advanced features of full-fledged 3D modelling packages, it gets the job done and is fairly intuitive. There is definitely room for improvement here, but this is probably the best app on the MacOS app store for basic 3D modelling in this price range. There are better web-based options, but I prefer installed apps and I prefer to install apps from the app store. If you have similar needs, this is probably your best option right now. With a few tweaks, this could be a really solid 5-star app. I’m excited to see how this app will mature in future updates.
Developer Response ,
Hi Seadron, many thanks for your kind words about Morphi. We just released Morphi for Mac version 3.3 so please try it (update is free) and let us know your thoughts. Note: you can always reach out to us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org with any comments or suggestions. Regarding save vs save as, we would be happy to consider adding a simple save. Currently users seems to use all 3 save as functions so we have kept it that way for maximum flexibility. Lots to come on all of our Morphi app platforms so stay tuned. All best, Morphi app team
Morphi Mac - A "Solid" Desktop Design App!
(This review also applies to the iOS iPad version.)
Just want to give a slightly different perspective for those evaluating Morphi for possible inclusion in their current professional/passionate maker workflow- you will not be disappointed!
In my product development work, I have traditionally relied on industrial-strength apps such as Autodesk’s Fusion 360, AutoCAD and (in the distant past) MicroStation. For quick & dirty simple designs, I’ve even used the more intuitive (and primarily cloud-based) services like TinkerCAD.
In my quest for a stand-alone (non-net) iOS app, I’ve downloaded and explored all of the admittedly limited number of apps in the store that promise a complete design environment.
All suffer from key limitations that are deal breakers for me: the inability to (easily) import/export stl/obj files, a limited palette of primitives, non-resizable work planes, poorly designed UI, and the list goes on...
And then there’s Morphi.
The developers at the Inventery have worked hard to provide a great design experience that perfectly reflects Apple’s philosophy for engineering outstanding apps- providing the user intuitive tools, sparse and well-executed UI elements and smooth performance with real-time results.
My only gripe is that it seems the marketing folks have repeatedly stressed Morphi’s simplicity and ease of use, especially for first-time modelers. While it’s undoubtedly true, it also does a disservice to the incredibly powerful underlying engine that compares favorably to the performance and functionality of the heavy-hitters in the industrial space.
While Morphi, in its current incarnation, cannot completely replace Fusion 360, Blender, and other fully-parametric 3D design apps, it’s an awesome addition to my workflow, and allows me to generate professional-grade rapid-deployment proof-of-concept models, especially when collaborating with non-designers that are unfamiliar with traditional 3D design tools. I can then import these stl (or obj) files into these other apps to hone my designs and add any remaining features.
Speaking of features, I’m also excited for the ongoing feature enhancements and positive response to users that the dev team delivers regularly.
(It’s also very cool that a corresponding version of Morphi for Mac has been released; this really facilitates design workflow and better integrates with those other desktop apps.)
In short, if you’re in the market for a tablet-based 3D design app that really delivers on its promises, and works (and plays!) well across today’s popular platforms, Morphi’s got your back - stop reading, download it and see for yourself.
If you’re at all like me, you’ll be glad you did!
Why did the update make this app unusable?
The last two updates have suffered a horrible graphic flaw. I dont think its a bug, but it make the software rediculously hard to align anything with any accuracy. Why did you make all the shadows so inredibly dark? This was not always this way. I cannot see anything on the lower parts of any object without juggling orientation all over the place, and even then its usually barely visible.

Thanks so much for reaching out. Is it possible for you to email us directly an image of what you are experiencing on your Mac.? Our email address is email@example.com. We did not change the lighting in the app so we are not sure what you are experiencing. Also please let us know what Mac OS you are running? Metal (Apple's graphics software) that we use in Morphi seems to run best with High Sierra.
Please let us know how else we can help. We're here for you.
