Annual Photo Books for My Kids

I make a 100 page album for each of my 2 children annually, so ease of use is SO important to me. This is my take on Motif: One thing I loved was that I figured out a way to use my photos as a page background. That was my favorite part of Apple's software and I haven't seen it anywhere else. Motif should make this an obvious selection in their layout options for the many who love this feature. (To use a photo as the background, simply select a layout where there is white space at the top and/or bottom of the page and you can actually drop a photo in that space. Then adjust the opacity so that your other photos jump off the page!) I REALLY love that Motif is an extension inside Apple's Photos so that I can just drag and drop pictures right from my library and right into the Motif book. (Yes, all within Photos!) I also like that I can use a photo more than once if I wanted (this is useful for backgrounds). It did take me a little while to get the software, but I now love it almost as much as the old Apple Photos software. As far as the photo book quality? Absolutely beautiful! I think with a few tweaks Motif will be on point all around. They offer limited layout options and no font options aside from size and color but I have a work around for the layout part at least...(tip: you can select any layout option they give and you can adjust the layout by making a photo box bigger or smaller or even deleting a box and resizing other boxes)...Hopefully they add more fonts soon! This is definitely my favorite since Apple's photo books. I love it! -Mark

Loved the Apple Books and coming to really like Motif

As a totally non tech-friendly girl I hated the idea of having to find and learn to use a whole new photo book program. I create one for every trip we go on with extensive formatting and text boxes so it has always been a lot of work. I started my latest project on 4 different vendors sites and gave up each time. They were too touchy or difficult to follow and place photos and to change fonts etc. Then I found Motif~ which was not without it's difficulties at first but it is much more intuitive so I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong and fix it without giving up! It is a bit touchy though. At one point I grabbed a 500 word text box to move it a bit and poof it disappeared. Still not sure why that happened but it was crushing as I had written directly into Motif and had no other reference for the text. (Didn't do that again!) Also, at the end when I was ready to check out Motif notified me that I had about 20 blank text boxes open that I didn't know about...So all in all I'd say it was a bit of a bumpy start on my first book but by the end I (almost) felt like I was creating in the old Apple program which I loved the simplicity of. I have just submitted my project for printing and am extremely happy with what I see on the screen. If it prints out like the AppleBook I will be over the moon. A bit nervous about the finished product being as slick as I'm used to but fingers crossed. I will re-submit a review on the finished book. My main thought~ stick with it and you'll really like the ease and functionality of this photo book spp.

Excellent for photo books

I used Motif for two photo books with my MacBook Air. These were the first photo books I have ever prepared. I looked at several applications and programs and selected Motif because it appeared to be easier to use. I also liked it because I did not need to upload photos until I had completed the project. Although I had a learning curve at the beginning of the first photo book, I also found it relatively easy to make adjustments. I really liked the features - the many different page layouts and text options, the ways to move sets of two pages, the different kinds of photos books (hard cover or soft cover and different sizes), the ability to edit photos as I was working on the photo book. I have received each of these photo books from Motif. They were processed within 2-3 days, and both are beautiful. I had to call customer support twice, and both of those contacts were positive. The only thing I wish could be changed, although it may be difficult, is if one page could be changed at a time, rather than two pages. Otherwise, I highly recommend Motif. I will use Motif the next time I want to make a photo book - and actually can't wait to use Motif again. I am so pleased with Motif's application and product. Thank you!

I have created over 12 books using Motif. I make a travel book after each trip and I make annual family album books for each of my children and grandchildren. I find it very user friendly, very adaptable in terms of page design options, the finished product looks professional and people are always impressed by the quality of these books when I give them as gifts. These books have become keepsakes in our family. I also appreciate that the books are no longer limited to 100 pages. The one thing I wish were different is that the program would allow me to type the text boxes when I enlarge the page for better viewing. It can be difficult to see my text until I finish the text box and then enlarge it. If I attempt to make a correction when the page is enlarged the program freezes. When I need to correct a typo I have to reduce the page and can’t see clearly once again. It can become very tedious in terms of checking for errors. Also, the books are very expensive and have gone up in price so generally I prepare a book ready for print and then wait for a coupon before I order. I will surely continue to use this program for all of my photo books.
