Service has provided obvious disappointments, but the app itself is also lacking
I think anyone who has moviepass or has read any article about it over the last 6-12 months will be aware of the issues with the service provided. While the company has obviously had to make changes to stay in business, the current scheme is virtually pointless. It’s honestly daylight robbery! Since they’ve changed the plan to a limited number of movies per month, it has been nearly impossible to actually see any movies. All of the theaters in my area always say that there are no showings available — even on weekdays. There is one theater in a nearby suburb that offers a couple of movies a day but otherwise, the service is useless in our city now.
But besides the obvious, the app itself also needs to be improved. I view the showtimes through the “theaters” tab. But, I have to click on 10+ theaters to confirm that none of them are showing any movies. If Moviepass is no longer accepted at these locations, REMOVE THEM FROM THE APP! And if a theater is only available on certain days, gray it out and make it unclickable when there are no possible showtimes.
Moviepass has the potential to be great - even with limited showings per month. Just make it possible for us to actually see those 3 promised movies... even if it was weeknight only or some other limitation! But in the current implementation, I would literally have to leave town to use a service that worked everywhere a few months ago!
Things have changed
A lot of major changes have been made and I wish I could say it’s been for the better. One major change has been that the plan has been changed to only 4 movies a month. Which in some cases, the majority of the people wouldn’t mind but in rare cases like this it’s kind of upsetting due to the fact that I watch more than 4 a month. I read somewhere, that people who are currently an under unlimited movies plan it would not change so I’m not too upset.
Another change they’ve added is that you cannot be logging in and out between two phones, which makes sense and it’s understandable due to business reasons but I would love there to be another work around because just recently my phone broke and i had to use someone else’s just to watch a movie but i had gotten another one (no in good shape but works for the time being) and now it won’t let me watch movies and it’s annoying.
The third change is that you now have to take a picture of your movie ticket every time you check in with movie pass, and normally it wouldn’t be an issue but with the temporary phone I have as of now my camera is not working and there’s no way I can take a picture of it. Luckily, they have an option where you can choose that you were not able to submit the picture for whatever reason. I will continue to select that option I just hope I don’t get permanently banned from MoviePass.

Great when it works, but ruins your day when it doesn’t.
Most of the time, this app and process works fine, without issue, however there are a few issues that need much attention. First, the request to take photos of tickets needs some bugs worked out. I take photos immediately after purchasing, and they are always accepted, and I think it’s fine. Then about every other time I reopen the app to see another movie, it asks for a photo of the last movie ticket again before I can check in for another movie. The app keeps a history of the movie’s I check in for- why can’t it keep track of the ticket stubs??? Second, I recently had an issue where the movie I wanted to watch was sold out, but when I went into the app to cancel it, the option wasn’t there. I let it go and even submitted an explanation as to why I didn’t take a photo of the ticket and the app still marked the movie as one I already saw- resulting in me not being able to see that movie using the pass. I chatted with customer service and was told not to worry, that they could check me into the movie when I went to the theatre. I then went to the theatre and contacted customer service again, and never was helped. It’s been over 3 hours and no one responded to my chat messages. I love the MoviePass, and it’s a great way to watch movies in the theatre. They need to make it possible to cancel out of a movie after the start time of the movie, especially if there was no transaction using the pass for that day.
