iCloud looks at the metadata in each music file, which can be incorrect in my peersonal music from my CD colleection. Search looks at the metadata. Mp3Tag is great for fixing the metadata, as changing the file name isn't enough. The app pulls in data for the tracks from Discogs or other sources which is cool. It is challenging to determine what set of data fit my tracks as the choices are not well defined. Hit the back arrow and select another option until one seems to fit. I don't think there is an 'undo' once you commit to the changes. The options the app finds are often ambiguous so it's a bit of a challenge to get the right metadata for my older CDs, which is due to the external sources. It would be nice to have a universal search and replace for multiple tracks, as if I want to change BTVN back to Beethoven for multiple track titles. The CD title is easy to change for the whole CD but not ind track titles. The composer field is also difficult. I use lastname, first name and dates as in (born-deceased), but the app doesn't provide composer information in a consistant fashion. A dropdown with options would be a good feature to add.

  • AFTER YEARS OF LOOKING THE TAGGER I ALWAYS WANTED

I highly recommend this app. If you are on the fence like I was, I'll get into that below. But first, the reasons why I now use this app daily. I'm a Deejay and its an ongoing process to develop a low-maintenance system for organizing a large and diverse collection, and most importantly, one that maximizes creativity and minimized management. This app was the missing piece, and fits perfectly into my flow. Particularly since I still buy vinyl, but rip it so I can listen to it when I'm not at my turntables. Now if you are on the fence like I was, when I first downloaded the trial, here's what I would say. By just opening and clicking around the app, without digging into the documentation, I had a very surface level understaing of how deep this program was. I had the assumption that it lacked most of the features I wanted, like advanced batch editing, broad tag support, appending, substring replace, regex, etc. But there is little to no functionality that I have found missing so far now that I have spent some time learning the app. It can even be scripted. I docked this one star only because I find some of the UI to be un-intuitive and take notes to remind myself how to do certain tasks. But that is not a reason to not buy this app if you need fine-grained control over tags in a large library.

  • A STAPLE ON MY COMPUTER FOR TWO DECADES

That's right, while the MacOS version is new, I've been using MP3TAG for at least two decades. And it has always, always, always been the best. I'm a working DJ, and I obsess over the formatting of the names of my music files and keeping TAG info correct. There is no better app than this for a music library, I have searched every few months for about eight years now to see if it had been released for Mac. i'm such a dork, you wouldn't believe my excitement when I saw it finally has come to MacOS--and in true Florian form, it comes at a GREAT price so it's accessible for all (he did the WIndows version free for years with just askiing for donations...which I did several times). The UI is his classic interface that I've been using for years, it is remarkably fast (even with granting permissions), it is easy, it just works and works GREAT. Florian is a very accomplished app designer and developer. You will not go wroong with this utility. Thank you Florian for your years of dedication and Congratulations on your success on the Appstore. #10 in Music?! Whoot Whoot!

  • Best Tagger Around!

    GraceBorn

I have used MP3Tag on Windows since it's inception, and purchased it eagerly when it was released for macOS. This app is fantastic. Florian is an indie developer and he is an incredibly nice guy and is very responsive to feedback, support questions, and feature requests. He is frequently adding new features that bring this closer to parity with the Windows version, and even a few that are unique to the Mac version. Best of all, he did a really great job making this a native Mac app and that looks and works like the standard conventions of macOS applications. When you see how clunky and ugly the Windows version is you'll realize what a big accomplishment he has has achieved with the polish of the Mac app. Florian also a great community on the app's forums (where he is very active too) that have helped me resolve every eccentric music tagging and sorting need that I have had (which are MANY). If you're looking for a tagger, buy this app. Just do it. And support Florian—he seems like a great guy who deserves to do well.

  • Long time fan of this utility

This has been such a quality utility for such a long time. I remember discovering Mp3tag ages ago when it was only available for Windows. There was a makeshift unofficial version for Mac at some point too, which was pretty good, but then the official Mac version came about not long ago and it's just great. This is a tool that every audiophile should have. There's just nothing like having 100% control over your audio files, richness in the tags and metadata and album covers, and integration / import ability from Discogs makes this a powerhouse application, yet so light and simple too. Florian is an excellent developer and belongs in some hall of fame for digital music all-stars / archival pioneers / software engineering extraordinaires. As a developer myself, Mp3tag is a source of inspiration. Thank you Florian.

  • Just what I wanted!

For years I've been looking for an effective, yet easy to understand, app that would let me tag music I've either transferred from my own sources or otherwise acquired; i.e., NOT from Apple Music. And MpeTag is THE ONE!I've tried the infamous SongKong (too many features; interface not for the faint of heart) and MusicMaster (not enough features; another confusing interface) and even some scripts from the amazing Doug Adams (I use many of his scripts and apps) and none of them hit the spot. Mp3Tag has everything I need, and nothing I don't, with an interface that's so easy to understand I didn't have to read anything first before trying it.The cherry on top? It's a universal app so it runs fast and clean on my Apple Silicon-based Mac Studio. Nicely done, Florian!

  • #1 Tagger

I’ve been using this application on my various Macs for several years now. It’s indispensable in keeping my ever-changing audio cleaned up and organized. As good as the software is, it’s the community and support that really shines. There’s a robust knowledge base to get users started off. More important, whenever I’ve run into questions on how to perform certain functions, their forum has a very engaged community of seasoned users that have never failed to address my inquiries, most of which involves proper query formatting. As founder and developer, Florian often engages as well and has helped me out a ton in years past. If you’re on the fence about which tagging application to use, I’d give this one a try. I’ve used numerous and this one tops them all…by a LOT

  • Terrific app!

Mp3tag is a terrific app loaded with great features, and it’s a bargain at its price. I’m an audio-enthusiast and got it to add album artwork to my music collection. It’s an excellent tool for that purpose. Some day I hope to understand and take advantage of more of Mp3tag’s capabilities. I haven’t even scratched the surface of what this app can do. It seems rock solid, and I’m confident that any features I need in the future will be there when I need them. The best part of all is that Mp3tag is being actively developed and improved by a developer who really cares about it and is quick to respond to any issues. Yes, there is a learning curve but there is also some very helpful documentation and a forum for users.

  • The most important app for digital music lovers, period

    Mawthra

This app has been the backbone (for years on PC, now I solely use it on Mac) for eons. No other app can handle massive libraries and and tasks like Mp3tag can... if you're meticulous about your library and want everything uniform and tidy, this is the only app you'll ever need, doing these sorts of things in the Apple Music app just pales in comparison... Florian is one of the best developers I've ever come across, his dedication and love for his craft and this app are unparalleled... I encourage you to subscribe to the newsletter to get a glimpse into his though processes and inspiration!Thank you, Florian, for all your hard work!

  • Thee Tag Editor

    Dcmair

I've been using Mp3tag for years; even before there was a native Mac version available. I'd either keep a Linux system handy or use the Wine-based port because this app is worth a little extra hassle to use to avoid the major hassle of tagging with sub-par tag editors. I was very glad to see a native version for Mac. The app has the right amount of features without being overwhelming, it's relatively light and quick as well. This app will likely always be my go-to app for tag editing -- basically, Florian, I'm your customer to lose -- don't screw it up. ;-)

  • I love this app

    The Verist

I have a very large music collection, and consistent tagging is important to me. There are other apps that will let you work with the metadata, but none of them are as powerful and easy to use as Mp3tag. Back before the macOS version was released, I kept a crappy old PC laptop around solely for Mp3tag, and would go through a complicated and annoying process of transferring files to a thumb drive, editing the metadata on the PC, then moving them back to permanent storage. No more. The release of the macOS version has greatly streamlined my workflow.

  • A revelation of a tool

    KillAllTheMarketers

This is simply an incredible tool. The batch capabilities and the ability to automatically change file names to correct ripping errors or previous organizational messes is just stellar. Absolutely worth purchasing if you have a largish library of digital music. As an old dude who has been ripping my own music since the early 1990s my collection of digital media files has been moved multiple times and come from multiple sources. Mptag is really helping me perform a complete merge and cleanup of my collection.
