Terrible Customer Service / Locked out of your upgraded product
I bought this app when they first started. They were decent in response to issues back then but have now taken a dive. I upgraded to 5.6 and after paying to upgrade, found myself with a product I couldnt use beause it told me my trial period was done. The issue is because for some reason, it’s associating a email to this newer version, even though I’ve never had it before. After reading through there forum, this is a common issue with this new 5.x version. It should be as simple as changing the login to associate with a new paid for email, but no. You cannot change this and have to deal with their terrible customer service and file a ticket. After 3 days, they closed my ticket and never even addressed the problem! In the past, they didn’t have associated emails or accounts but have now did that and so I’m left to going back to the old version. DO NOT UPGRADE and pay for this because you might find yourself in the same boat and unable to use the product you upgrade to.
Developer Response ,
I'm not sure what happened here, but we would like to help you get back on track with the new app. We're sorry for the long response times you experienced, but we do try to answer our customer's email within a day. If you happened to contact us over the Holidays, it is possible we were backed up a bit from the days off between Christmas and New Years. When app shows it is in trial mode after a license is purchased, that indicates a sign in to a different account which is a very simple. Please contact our support team again, and we will do everything we can to help get the issue resolved. You can reach us on our support forum - discussions.msecure.com - or via email - email@example.com.
Now that local syncing works again, this is a very good upgrade
I paid for, but resisted downloading mSecure 5, until it again supported the local network syncing I'd used before in mSecure 4. Whatever the benefits of cloud storage, I was not comfortable handing every spook in the world a copy of all my passwords to decrypt at their leisure by breaking into whatever cloud service mSecure used.
That aside, the app continues to work well and sync easily with all my computers and devices. I particularly like that my fingerprint and face eliminate the need to enter a password when using mSecure on some of my devices.
One thing I DON'T like is that mSecure always offers a godawful complex password, whenever I set up a new account. I'd rather it not do that by default, as much of my online accounts don't need that level of security.
On WiFi/local sync, mSecure stores your password in the cloud
mSecure is a great password app, but, I do not want any info in the cloud, or sent out to the internet - espically my password. The long developer explaination is that mSecure needs my password to sync accounts.
I have always used the local backup - no cloud. Great….except with MSecure 5, I cannot change my password without connecting to the internet. This is a serious flaw if one desires to keep their information off the internet.
Just try changing your password without being connected to the internet - you will receive the following:
There was an error setting the password to the cloud. Please make sure you have an internet connection and try again."

Hi TType. The reason you have to be online to change your password, is because all mSecure apps you may be running on your devices are now tied to the same mSecure account. In order for syncing to work between the apps, the account key (not your account password) which secures your data and is ONLY stored locally on your devices, always has to match in order for the syncing of encrypted data to take place. The data in mSecure is kept secure by your account key, again, only stored locally on each device, but in order for the account key to do its job, mSecure also has to know your account password, which is entered when the app is unlocked. Every online account system has a secure hashing mechanism to handle user passwords, and that is what we are using as well. When you sign up for an mSecure account, your account password is hashed in a way that it is not able to be unscrambled by anyone, not even us. It is not stored in your account, as that would cause a security vulnerability for all of our customers. mSeven Software does not ever acquire your password in any way, regardless of which sync method you choose to use. Furthermore, your information is not stored in our cloud service unless you choose mSecure Cloud for syncing your information between your devices. In that case, the data is only ever stored in it's non-readable, encrypted form. Since you are using Wi-Fi for syncing, none of your sensitive information is ever stored in the mSecure Cloud. Please contact us either on our support forum - discussions.msecure.com - or via email - firstname.lastname@example.org - and we can answer any questions you might have regarding mSecure's security model.
