Sometimes constraints are good

I'm quite enjoying MUBI. In the past 24 hours I've watched two movies that were about to expire: a Czechoslovakian feature I might not've otherwise watched that I enjoyed thoroughly, and a film I hadn't yet seen by a favorite French director. Maybe the scarcity of choice and limited viewing time sweeten the experience, or perhaps the selections are simply very very good: by not trying to appeal to every taste and cram empty shelves full with every feature imaginable (and some best left unimagined: Netflix's deal with Adam Sandler, anyone?) the MUBI programmers are able to limit themselves to the cream of the international crop. Regardless of why, however, I am definitely so far enjoying my MUBI experience, and I would not hesitate to recommend this service to diehard cinéastes everywhere.

Woke up like a machine

I woke up feeling as if a big municipal machine had ran on me. I should preserve my energy more alertly I thought. I opened my eyes. Silence. Reached out to my screen. Searched for something to watch and to listen to. Sound and imagery helps me to redefine my dimensions. I have to do it every long morning I get to stay in bed. Alone and silent. After a long absence from the world while dreaming all night. This morning, however, I was craving for more dreams rather than sinking back into reality. I saw the first seconds of this film. I saw the stuffed animals on the boat, motionless. They suddenly turned their head to the camera, motionless again. I decided to continue this dream. Even though it didn’t make any sense. That’s how I wanted to feel, nonessential.
