Was so excited to use this...
I got this app to replace my hardware connection to my iPad (Iconnect MIDI). I got everything installed (Mac) properly, but everytime I send MIDI notes from my DAW (Ableton 9), the server app crashes. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
I have put in two emails to tech support over the last 2 months only to be completely ignored. I understand that they might be understaffed, but at least some kind of acknowledgement would be nice.
Hoping they get their act together. Such a bummer that I can't use this after I bought it.
*used to be an* Essential App
*How unfortunate. I see that I wrote a shining review years ago when I had my iPhone 5s. My 6s presented problems that I thought my Xs would fix. Not true.
I have tried contacting this company over the years in every way possible even sending messages to their partner companies in hopes to inspire some communication. I am giving my paid version up as a lost cause. RIP MusicIO.
This app IS the way the wind is blowing. Other leading VSTi app assemblers require other cables and connectors and offer no other possibilities. The connection to OS X is simple and inserting into my DAW is very easy and follows standard procedures. I can actually put different VSTi's into different channels and control each with outboard controllers. If I want to leave the peripherals at home it works independently and still sends audio through the phones jack.
Having said all that, I only gave 4 stars because the user layout could use some evolution. There are just a couple simple things to change. There are also some crashes that happen. Through rebooting (sometimes a few times) it will repair itself. Order that apps are launched is important.
I very much believe in this company and its evolution.
This is an ideal way to connect the iPad to Logic (and presumably elsewhere, Logic's all I've tried so far; it's so sweet I can't drag myself away to experiment!), both for MIDI and audio from iPad apps (and back out, too). I had a little trouble at first getting audio recording to work, but got a swift reply from the developers that sorted everything out—Logic IS weird as we all know, but great once you know the workarounds. For me, MusicIO is an essential tool, the thing that finally makes ios music stuff real.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
