Description

With its two apps, Glimpact empowers citizens to take action on their own lifestyles to reduce their individual environmental footprint (My Glimpact), as well as to steer their purchases towards the least impactful products (Glimpact Scan). Glimpact enables the creation of a virtuous circle to facilitate the ecological transition of both citizens and businesses.

My Glimpact allows you to assess your overall environmental footprint based on your lifestyle and discover to what extent you are contributing to exceeding the nine planetary boundaries beyond which the planet becomes destabilized. It helps you understand the causes of your impact and identify effective strategies to reduce it.

My Glimpact is based on the only method recognized by the scientific community and adopted by the European Union for measuring each individual's environmental impact: the PEF/OEF method. This method goes beyond measuring carbon footprint to consider all 16 categories of human activity impact on the planet (such as water consumption, fossil fuel consumption, and land use).

Because when it comes to the environment, if we cannot see everything, we see nothing.

That one guy Vulok ,

Good but old idea, needs improvements though

There isn’t enough choices when answering the simple questions.

Do you eat from your garden and power through m solar? Not there
If you drive how many miles/km? Not there
EV or ICE car? Nope
Are the brands of products you purchase environmentally friendly/conscious? Not there

While the overall impacts of these decisions are minimal at best on the larger scale. This app seemingly implies that our choices will change our outlook and future, but in reality these choices are beyond our control. Look into corporations and policies to make a true difference.

Neat in theory, but lacking in execution

My highest impact area was food. I answered “vegan” and yet two of my three suggested changes were to swap red meat with white meat and reduce meat consumption. Not impressed.

No.

The questions are not comprehensive. Not an accurate figure. There’s no way I would require 8 Earths to support my lifestyle, and for such a ludicrous figure to be formulated based on such a lack of information is just… Ridiculous. I checked this app out after reading an article on it and I’m just not impressed at all. Very disappointing. I guess I should’ve figured that out after seeing that there was only one single review. How does such a pathetic app get an article written about it in a reputable news source? I suppose they paid handsomely for that article. The article states: “ This concept of planetary boundaries is helpful for scientists, but less so for everyone else. Wrapping your head around one existential crisis at a time is challenging enough. Navigating six others, from biodiversity loss to microplastics? Might as well give up, right?
Not so fast, Christophe Girardier told TechCrunch. His startup, Glimpact, has a new app called MyGlimpact that he hopes will help people understand not just the extent of their environmental footprint, but also why they shouldn’t feel guilty about it.” I live a fairly environmentally conscious lifestyle, and after answering the very undetailed questions that this app asked of me, the result is a determination of something that I should feel very guilty about. This app has informed me that eight planet Earths would be required to accommodate my lifestyle. That is a humongous guilt trip to try to lay on a person while saying that you present this information as a way of showing people that they should not feel guilty about their lifestyle…. Flimshaw!
