My Time by NETGEAR is the kids' companion app for Smart Parental Controls that provides your kids with a personalized dashboard to see how much time they have left online. Once installed, My Time lets you manage your kids’ mobile devices, and see how they spend time online wherever they go.
My Time eliminates the need for spontaneous bribes or device confiscation and gives more control to your kids by letting them better understand your established internet rules.

Won’t be renewing subscription

When I first started using this app, I thought it was amazing and recommended it to all my friends. Now I’ve encountered enough bugs that I won’t be renewing my subscription.

-You can’t give more than one reward a day (I did find a workaround but you shouldn’t have to do that)

-It messes with third party apps. I started using it on my devices to control my twitter usage and next thing I knew, I was no longer able to use my bank’s bill pay or online chat and I when used google search, I would click on an ad but the website would not open. Once I stopped using it on my devices, I had no further issues.

-I paused the internet on one profile using the nighthawk app and even after I unpaused it, the user wasn’t able to access wifi on their devices. I had to uninstall and reinstall the my time app on their device.

-I don’t know exactly how their system works but it seems to count usage in increments of 5 minutes which quickly eats up time.

-The my time app itself counts against the daily time each profile is allowed which also quickly eats up time. This seems to only happen if the app is accessed which is a lot when you have curious kids.

I did contact Netgear support about the daily rewards issue and it was an absolute waste of my time.

Thoughts from a teen with strict parents

This app takes takes away the little control children have over their own possessions. My dad installed this app on my phone and I am 15 years old. Apps like this are for parents that do not trust their children. I recommend that parents just teach their children safe internet practices instead of having access to everything they look at. Parents please just teach your kids to be responsible instead of sheltering them. I promise you it does not help.

Wish I could give it zero stars

The vpn never connects and interfers with everything. So I deleted the app of my kids iPads but then the parental controls stayed in the Apple>screen time>content & privacy restriction. In order to toggle that off you need a pin which apparently the app enabled and set. So without knowing this pin I’m screwed. Looks like I’m going to have to wipe the iPads and start over.
