I think it’s a bit silly to have to pay for an app that completes a public service. It certainly costs more than $3 to provide my interaction with staff at the DMV, so why those savings can’t be used to pay for this app, I don’t know.

Setting aside that objection, I’ve taken away two stars because of the chatbot interface for this app. There’s no need for this! We’re well into the internet era—just show me my information, let me confirm it, and make it easy to pay. I go online for these tasks to avoid talking with a real person, not to have to imitate it!

I took away an additional star because of several bugs I encountered while renewing a registration. If I’m going to pay $3 every time I use this app, it should work better than this. For example, when I flipped over to copy my credit card number from a password manager app, then moved back to it to get additional information, MYNCDMV deleted all the information I had already input. After entering new card info, I was dumped back to a payment screen to confirm... but there was no way to verify how I was paying. Time to check for some bugs, friends...

Both this app and the website are extremely buggy. Caught in and endless loop of trying to log in between email address, google account, or Facebook account. Multiple “Failed to Fetch” messages encountered on multiple attempts. Reset password link is non functional and any support phone numbers listed are a dead end of pre recorded messages.

I guess I eventually got the right combination through the app by authenticating with my google account. I sincerely hope whoever may be reading this does not encounter the same issues I did.

For those people that are always finding something to complain about, get a life! The app WORKS FLAWLESSLY if you know what you’re doing! And for having to pay a $3 fee? That’s a drop in the bucket compared to having to get up and get ready, put wear and tear on your vehicle, spend money on gas, waiting in line for awhile most of the time and figuring all the time you invested doing it all just to get a little sticker for your license plate! NO THANK YOU! I will stay home, set in my comfortable chair with this app in hand and renew my registration in about 2 minutes! Ahhhh the time and money I saved feels really great! So, y’all keep the negativity and complaining going and drive on down and stand in that line and spend that money and wear out your vehicle prematurely and then you won’t need that registration renewed after all!
