I find the controls not suited for mobile

I know that this is a great game, it did things games had not done before, and I never managed to solve the DS version but I spent quite a bit of time on it. Because it was a gorgeous world and the music too.

But on mobile, it’s a different experience. There’s no tutorial on the controls, and they’re rather jerky where you wouldn’t expect, and smooth in sudden ways. Might need a tutorial for the settings such as adjusting graphics quality.

I feel like what I find issue with would be resolved if there was a suitable tutorial for newcomers, esp as mobile and other controllers are a different experience, and also a smoother and better moving around control experience.

Trying to look around and move and end up bumping into things and not getting to see notes up close was a bummer, esp having to switch around perspectives left or right. It also felt like there was a narrative missing after [spoilers]
The guy had his book fall. After all now there’s someone else who ended up here. I could’ve sworn there was some thought bubbles in the original as well, who knows, I could be wrong

But basically, this adaptation for mobile needs some more adapting. I hope the best for a future update

Hi there. Thanks for playing! You may find our “legacy navigation mode” to be more suitable for the gameplay navigation you’re looking for. You can find this option in the controls settings, and it’s a part of a tutorial message in 1.9.3. Cheers!

Wow, amazing so far…❗️

Okay, I haven’t yet played through this game but so far, it’s awesome. Kudos to the Developers for a beautiful reboot of a venerable old-school point-and-click adventure on its 30th anniversary. I’m playing on a 5th edition iPad Pro 12.9” with an M1 chip, running iOS 16, and the graphics are stunningly beautiful, rivaling any console game I’ve yet to encounter. The controls are smooth, the sound quality and music is excellent, no constructive criticism to offer yet — and I’ve been gaming on iOS since 2009, having posted many reviews (including a substantive number of negative ones). Anyway, I made the IAP to get the intro discount but also to express my support of Cyan for what I hope will be a masterpiece of mobile gaming. …So far, so good — I will try to update this review at a later date after I have had a chance to make significant progress or likely even play through until the end.

I got the finally got the book open. Now what?

Finally, I was able to maneuver the difficult controls to get the book open. Something is playing on the screen, although it’s difficult to get close enough to figure out what it is. I keep tapping the book, nothing seems to happen. I’ve swung around in the dark, tapped the cave opening, and nothing. No way to access settings, figure out what to do, or anything. After about five minutes, I closed the app.

Edit: I closed the app and started over. This time, I went straight ahead to the book rather than going to the left first. The controls should not let you move anywhere other than straight ahead, because once you do, you can’t go straight to the book to go in. I’m going to keep playing, but this was not a good opening.

Wonderful remake of a classic adventure.

Yes, it is worth $15.

When you pay $1 for a game, either the game is awful, or you're the product.
I would have paid 60 and still been happy.

I played the whole Myst series as a kid -- it was a favorite. I remember wishing I could walk around in 3D some day. This remake fulfills that with great success.

Pros:
Great puzzles, interesting story, wonderful attention to detail. Every gear, button, canle, etc. has a purpose.
It has no excuse being only $15 -- there is no way they are breaking even on that.

Great movement / look controls.
Performance on my IPhone 13 is excellent.

Cons/Suggestions:
1. Touching small buttons / controls can he tricky.

2. It is hard to see small objects on mobile. Game could benefit greatly from a FOV zoom tool.

3. Accessing stored photos should not need to go through the menu.

4. A note taking / drawing tool would be handy, especially for the sellenic age mine and the marker switch puzzle.

5. Detail should optionally reduce while the phone is charging -- Some devices slow to a crawl on the charger.

6. I need more. Pls hurry up and finish riven. Tell the staff that I told them they are grounded if they do not release it by tomorrow.

Not for the phone

I found game play controls to be very difficult to use on an iphone. Moving around the 1st person POV was extremely difficult.

However, I would welcome the opportunity to play this on a game console or PC.

The difficulty of MYST was that you had to try a million combinations and actions to move beyond a set piece and you never knew if you were making progress. Would love to see more of this type of game design in the app world. I don’t mind paying outright for a game, but the endless in-game purchase options are extremely annoying and why I have difficulty finding a game app to stick with for more than a few days.

Hi there, we welcome you to try “legacy navigation mode”, which is offered as one-touch navigation in the menu. Or you could use the virtual gamepad controls if you prefer hand-held movement without a physical gamepad as well.

We only have one in-app purchase, and that is simply to unlock the rest of the game after being able to explore all of Myst Island. We are sorry that you are dismayed by the in-app purchase options offered by other applications than Myst Mobile.

We do hope you give Myst Mobile another chance some day! Thank you for playing.

Fun nostalgia

I enjoyed the game.
I didn’t struggle with the navigation.
I didn’t realize I could up the display graphics until after i finished. oops. Wish i would’ve done that on my play through.

I remember the original. It’s weird to play the game now on mobile, it’s so smooth and flowy in the unreal engine. But then the puzzles and things are still the same. Maybe it’s time to give Myst ages some inhabitants to talk to and then have a bit more story, maybe some new puzzles. A new area of Channelwood. A place to go by ship in Stoneship. Something really cool to do in lava tubes on Selenitic. Rebuilt from the ground up, maybe they could’ve gone a bit off book. I guess that would be a remix and not a rebuilt. Oh well. Still fun to go through again.

To the last point. I guess I also thought the inapp purchase was to unlock ages besides those in the original game. realMyst had Rime. But I guess it just unlocked the 4 ages from the game. Oh. I didn’t miss anything then. Did the things. ✅

Super Frustrating Controls on iPad

I bought the mobleMyst, and have been playing on an iPad Air. The game is great EXCEPT trying to move around is soooo AGGRAVATING. When you move forward it zooms along super fast and you’re constantly overshooting the spot you want to travel to. Then its very slow and clunky trying to go around and try again. I’ve come to a puzzle that requires you to quickly move from one spot to another within a short time frame and it is IMPOSSIBLE! I give up, even though I’m half way through and wish I could play more. It’s just not fun.

BTW, I’ve tried both modes of control, legacy and virtual, and they are both extremely hard to manage. You need to take some advice from the guy who wrote “The Witness”, where moving around was easy.

Played on iPad Pro 2021

Have yet to buy the unlocked game, but wandering around the island and checking out a few puzzles I expect to purchase it soon. I use the Logitech combo touch keyboard with this and it works quite well - sometimes the touchpad on the keyboard will act up at times, and in that case I will just use the touch screen to make the action which is seem less.

The game itself brings that atmosphere of wonder and mystery that anyone gets when playing Myst. It’s been so long since I’ve played the classic that I am thoroughly pleased with this new mobile version.

Takes me back! (Was: No audio)

For some reason, there is no audio on my iPhone 12 Pro Max and on my A12X era iPad Pro. I really want to play the game but without audio, I can’t.

Edit: It turns out that I had the mute switch turned on on both the devices. It’s off to have a game respond to that switch. But I’m happy to be able to replay the game and relive the memories.

I only discovered the option to play the original game animations after I finished the game. I think I’ll go back and repay the whole game with that option turned on as the CGI faces are odd.

Developer Response ,

Hi there, just in case, it would be work making sure that the volume settings on your phone allow for sound to be played (make sure your phone is not in “muted” mode with the physical toggle). Otherwise, please send us information about your device to support@cyan.com. Thanks so much!

Amazing So Far

I have always been a huge fan of the Myst series, going all the way back to the beginning. I’m delighted to see this release, and was happy to pay to get the full version. For those who are complaining about the CGI graphics, you can change that in your display settings: just change to classic mode and you’ll see everything as it once was. Thank you, Cyan, for continuing to develop this wonderful series! I am absolutely satisfied at this point.
