navCenter is a highly customisable app that enables your iPhone/iPad/Mac/Watch to operate as a multifunctional display (MFD) for NMEA data and as an autopilot remote control for SeaTalk1™ and SeaTalkNG™ autopilots.

navCenter connects to the vessel's WiFi system to access navigation data transmitted by the vessel in either NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183 format. Incoming NMEA 0183 data is able to be logged for later analyses.

When partnered with a suitable WiFi multiplexer or Gateway navCenter is able to remotely control SeaTalkNG™ and SeaTalk1™ autopilots. More information on the autopilot remote control can be found here:

After talking to the developer, it sounds like the Raymarine Autopilot control feature currently requires bi-directional Seatalk support on your WiFi bridge. Some NMEA bridges support this, but many only do SeataIk input and NMEA output. Update: after getting a bidirectional Seatalk Wi-Fi bridge, the app works great. This requirement is due to Raymarine only partially implementing NMEA support on the ST6001 autopilot control head.

Hi Bert; thank you very much for your positive review. You are, of course, completely correct; you do need a bi-directional Seatalk on your wifi bridge to properly control a Seatalk pilot as its NMEA support limited. Great to know you are enjoying the app and are now able to remotely control your pilot. Byron

Simply perfect, I wonder anyway if it can use local GPS

I really like this app. Easy to connect, nice interface, reliable. My only problem is that I don’t have a gps on board and I would love to use the iPhone GPS for COG etc.

Developer Response ,

Hi Jacopo. Thank you for your positive feedback; we are really happy that you like navCenter. It is a good idea to allow navCenter to use a devices internal GPS (thanks for the idea 😀) and we plan to include that facility in a future release of navCenter. Using the internal GPS would use a lot of battery power so if the facility is used for long periods it would be advisable to keep your phone plugged into a power source. Currently we are concentrating our efforts on adding support of NMEA2000 to navCenter. Once that is achieved (by mid summer we think) we will look at offerring the facility to access the internal GPS. I will then be in touch to let you know what we plan. Byron. Note the ability to use a devices internal GPS was made available from version 3.0.5.
