Description

The most convenient way to download images from NBIA/TCIA.

This app facilitates downloading images from the National Biomedical Imaging Archive (NBIA) and The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA). NBIA and TCIA provide the cancer research and medical communities, industry, and academia access to imaging archives to support the development and validation of analytical software tools. You must already have a manifest file specifying which image series you are downloading to use the NBIA Data Retriever. Please visit https://wiki.cancerimagingarchive.net/display/NBIA/NBIA+Data+Retriever+Help for detailed instructions about generating a manifest file and using the this app. A Youtube tutorial video is also available on https://youtu.be/NO48XtdHTic .

Need to improve documentation

You should mention front and clear that this app does not work on its own, it can only be used to open .tcia files downloaded from TCIA. Even being a long time TCIA user I was confused when "Open" app did not have any effect.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for using NBIA Data Retriever and suggestions for improvement. For version 3.3, I added a dialog to remind the user to download a manifest file first and NBIA Data Retriever needs to work with a manifest file (.tcia file). On the app description section, this info is also included, along with the link for documentation. Video links for showing the usage of the app are planned to add to documentation. Your input is valuable to us and we continue to work hard to support cancer image community.

IOException after the update

It keeps giving me this IOException on sending and receiving after the update. I don't know what the issue is.

Developer Response ,

Thank you very much for reporting the issue. The latest app submission process got rid of comments in files to reduce the app size and the defined sandbox entitlements were removed mistakenly in submission process, although the app passed QA on the development side. Version 3.48 has this issue resolved. Please upgrade to this version.

IO exception upon opening

Upon opening the application I immediately get a sequence of 2 IO Exceptions, followed by a message saying the "Connection test failed. Please check your communication settings." I have a valid .tcia file but cannot do anything with it because the application isn't working.

Developer Response ,

Thank you very much for reporting the issue. I found out the latest app submission process got rid of comments in files automatically to reduce the app size and the defined sandbox entitlements were removed mistakenly in submission process. The result was the network access for NBIA Data Retriever in your machine was blocked. Version 3.48 has this issue resolved. Please upgrade to this version. And also please consider change your rating. I understand the frustration when an app is not working any more. And this exactly happened to us. The app passed QA before submitting to App Store. It failed on a process out of our control. Anyway, please give version 3.48 a try and report any issue to https://www.cancerimagingarchive.net/support/. This is the quickest way to have any issue resolved with this App. Thanks!
