Description

Log internet connection outages, see long term graphs of your network traffic speeds, monitor servers and IP devices. Optionally display network stats in the menu bar. If there are certain times of day or week that your network slows down or has an outage, Network Logger Pro will show you.

An optional speech synthesis feature announces when your internet connection goes down and up. Other types of events for almost any type of server or device can also be verbally announced, see below.

Network Logger Pro can also be used to monitor web sites, ongoingly ping any network device and produce historical graphs and logs of their speeds, outages, and response times.

Some customers have told us of interesting uses they have for Network Logger Pro. One is a network contractor who uses it to monitor wifi systems he installs on remote drilling rigs and to provide statistics to his clients documenting his service. Another uses Network Logger Pro to monitor a weak satellite link in Africa, to determine the best times of day to connect.

Features:

• Internet Connection Outage Logging
• Long Term Automated Internet Connection Speed and Connectivity Testing
• Realtime Traffic Displays for all Network Interfaces and Routers*

• Automated Ping Testing
• Automated HTTP Testing
• Monitoring for UPnP & SNMP (v1,v2) Enabled Routers & Devices*

• Historical Traffic Graphs for all Network Interfaces and Routers*
• Menubar Display showing Speed and Connection Status
• Website Transmission Speed Graphs
• Ping & HTTP Response Time Graphs
• Ping & HTTP Outage Logs
• Customizable Spoken Announcements for Monitoring Events

• Customizable Color Themes
• Linear and Log Graphing Styles
• Clickable Stats on Graph Bars

• Autosave of Monitoring Sessions
• Save and Resume Monitoring Sessions
• Export Graphs as PDFs
• Export Logs as .log Files
• Export CSV File Statistics

When monitoring a server URL or a device IP address with a URL Monitor you can customize the spoken and logged status announcements by entering your own text. With this you can set up spoken announcements for any device that responds to pings or HTTP requests such as:

• The company website is down.
• The smart TV in Johnny's bedroom has been turned on.
• The IP security camera by the garage went down.
• The online store payment gateway is not responding.

Also see Network Logger IT, a separate product with the same features, but which also offers emailed notifications of monitoring events.

If you have an issue using Network Logger Pro or need help, email the support address on this page and you will get support right away. Suggestions are welcome.

*Note: If you are interested in purchasing this app for the router monitoring feature, you can test your router's compatibility with Network Logger by downloading the free utility "NL Compatibility Checker" first. Available on the Mac App Store.

=================

A customer comment that demonstrates a real world use of Network Logger:

"My DSL has been dropping its connection (losing sync) about a ten times a day. This wouldn't be a huge problem for just casual surfing, but it brings down my VPN connection every time and everything running over that connection, which is a big hassle. Network Logger has been invaluable in documenting for my ISP just how frequently my connection goes down. When I called my ISP with this information, I got to 2nd level support almost immediately, without even being asked if it's plugged in, or to turn it off and turn it on again.

All in all, a great tool with lots of different uses. Very handy to have in your toolbox whether you need to constantly monitor a site, or just to have around for occasional use when your network or site starts behaving oddly."

What’s New

Version 7.23

Added Jitter display to URL/IP Monitor test logs. Time labels now display metric intervals down to femtoseconds. Added the ability to load the previous session configuration without session data both manually or in autostart mode. Various UI improvements.

I only use elementry features

I've been using this application for about three weeks to find it helps to display downlink data and uplink data transfers of packets in Kbps and shows what devices are inline either on Ethernet or Router however, I cant see all the devices that I think should be showing, just UPnP Devices.

Obvious Network outages are the prime logging event tool of this app with other uses of which I have not explored. For $10 my cost it serves basic. The real fancy software I would like is professional and too expensive for my limited use, so I get along with this simple functioning tool like this one. The URL monitor only shows my Router and One other device unknown while I know to have at least four other devices actively present ? Seen I am Persecuted by officials for many years now, I wish to see if any keylogging or Spyware is actively monitoring my personal information through the Modem, this is not a feature of this software.

Developer Response ,

The UPnP device discovery window you are describing is not a list of your network devices, it's intended to help you find UPnP compliant devices that can report their traffic speeds so you can get live graphs of them. You can do the same thing with devices that support the SNMP protocol for reporting traffic speeds as well. Please see the User Manual for more information or contact technical support for help.

Great App, Responsive Developer

On first glance the graph can be a little intimidating but the app is pretty much set it and forget it (until you have an outage, at which time you’ll probably want to consult the manual to learn how to export data to submit to your ISP, which is easier than it sounds). Really the only thing I’ve had to do is to select the desired network to monitor in the menubar and that takes all of one click. I mentioned to the developer that I would like to be able to set the smaller graph to monitor only one connection, as the shared connection to a PC in another room is of no concern to me, and he responded the very next day and said that he would add it to his to-do list. Very responsive.

In the end, this app is far easier for the average user to track connection drops with than searching tedious log files, using professional network tools, or taking screenshots of Apple’s dropped connection graphics, and will hold more weight with your ISP than just complaining about your connection. And at a fraction of the price of other network tools to boot! I am very happy with Network Logger Pro and I kind of wish my connection problems would arise again just so I can set my ISP straight :)

Great Monitoring tool and Support

This is a valuable network monitoring tool no matter how complex the net may be. The reason for 4 stars and not five is due to the fact that there was an issue with the Pro version crashing on launch (an issue I believe is due to a recent upgrade to Big Sur). I sent a e-mail to support and recieved a quick response with a work around and when I still had issues, I was sent the full IT version with a liscense key.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the kind words. The issue mentioned affected just a handful of users and was fixed in version 6.9.
