Description

Streaming da kine in stereo since 1999!! It's A Tropical Vacation For Your Ears!

We bring you the very best Hawaiian music, and we don't clutter it up with advertising or DJs that never stop talking. We play mostly traditional Hawaiian music, meaning mostly in the Hawaiian language. Hawaiian music includes chanting and music for hula dancing and telling stories, as well as communicating genealogy and mythology.

While Hawaiian music is often relatively simple in melody and rhythm, it is complex and rich in poetry and vocal styles. Add a hula dancer, and you have one of the most beautiful cultural art forms in the world.

Great app for Hawaiian music

This is a great update, and the yearly subscription is a great deal for listening to great Hawaiian music. It has responsive controls, to rewinds or fast forward. The only thing that keeps it from getting a full five stars is the cover art is hard to read and doesn't always update if you rewind or speed through the playlist.

Developer Response ,

First of all, thanks for listening. The cover art is sourced from Apple and iTunes, and yes, it's less than perfect. Unfortunately, their images are small and low resolution. I tried another source for images, but they had almost no Hawaiian music cover art. After I catch my breath from this update, I will see if I can find a better source of cover art. In the mean time, I hope you are enjoying the music!

Tried again

Your updated app makes it easier now. Just purchased for da year and am enjoying da music. Really missed it since I quit a while back. Side note: purchased through my iPhone and just added it to my iPad. Was surprised I didn’t have to also pay for that to be added to my iPad. (Or was I charged?)

The app has been updated twice since your review. I hope you'll try again.

Inconsistent and buggy

Hawaiian Rainbow sounds like a good idea: ad-free Hawaiian language music, with station IDs at the top and the bottom of the hour. The majority of the music is in the Hawaiian language, with a few slack key guitar songs, and a few English language tuned.

The problem is that most of the songs are 20 to 30 years old. Very few recent Nā Hōkū winners are added. Listening to old Willie K and Ha, the breath of life, songs gets very tiresome. The three Tahitian songs that are played over and over again may make me lose my mind.

The radio station will disappear for hours at a time. There seems to be nobody monitoring or no software to let the owner know when it has gone off-line.

It’s a great concept, and I love the station when it works. But new artists need to be added and a better monitoring system installed.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for writing. You can always connect to me through the website HawaiianRainbow.com. I'm more frustrated than anyone about the resent string of server problems and the station going down repeatedly. I'm trying REALY HARD to get this fixed for good, but it's been a real challenge. Most of the Shoutcast server companies are not very reliable... the last one I had just shut down and disappeared in the middle of the night, so recently I got my own server. Now that server company has been having problems. I appreciate your review and your frustrations. I'm working on it, believe me. Feel free to email me any time, good news or bad.
