Ratings and Reviews
As a paranoid first time mom I had really enjoyed our experience with owlet for the smart sock 1 and smart sock 2 (which we purchased once we could afford to upgrade). Our sons readings were always consistent to his vitals when at the doctor and even the one visit we had early in infancy to the ER. Much so that we had been acknowledged by those medical professionals to use our owlet as another great “safe-guard” in place. It was a no brainer to purchase the owlet cam when it came to market. Like all new products there will be road bumps. I have no doubt, especially with how quick responding the owlet care team is- that they will work out the kinks. They are entirely invested in their products and you can tell by the quality and experiences of those who have used the socks. It may take time, and therefore they have a 45 day guarantee if you are still not satisfied. Personally, I would graciously accept more than a weeks time for bug fixes considering the haul of interest people had in this product and how quickly they were made available to purchase. Yes, much like many, I will look forward to my camera not lagging, among with the other minor errors, but I’ll continue to be realistic and give it time. Therefore I will continue to recommend the camera to others but remind them to be realistic too.
We were given the camera as a gift to pair with our Owlet sock. We love our sock, as it gave us peace of mind for our daughter to sleep in her own room early on. The camera is a whole different story. In a week’s time, we have not had a single sleepless night because we make up to find out the camera just drops WiFi connection with zero notification and zero reconnection and our daughter goes unmonitored. In order to get it back on, we have to close the app and reopen it. When it is briefly working, the picture and sound quality are A+, until the connection gets lost.
I called customer support and they told me to log out of previous accounts on their older app, then delete the older app altogether, then make sure I have 2.4 GHz internet, and make sure nothing else is running on the 2.4 GHz internet except the Owlet devices. They said if that didn’t work then it is a problem with our internet. We did all of the above, and moved every other device in our home to a 5.0 GHz stream, and only kept the Owlet devices on the 2.4 GHz. Mind you, we have never had internet issues. Unfortunately, it did not fix the problem.
I am confident that when I call them back today, they will tell me it is an internet problem and to call my service provider, instead of saying “hey we are working out the kinks and the app and camera should work up to your standards very soon.” Until the major flaws in this product are fixed, I wouldn’t waste money on the camera.
Have some patience
The products are great. When reading the negative reviews, I understand the complaints. However, it was the application that was causing problems, not the devices. I have both the sock and the camera, and there was about a month that my apps didn’t work correctly. However, that being said, the sock and base station always worked, even when the app didn’t. So it was still reliable in the fact that it would alert me should something go wrong. Anytime my son would cause a sock displacement issue, the base station would sound. The app wasn’t tracking my sock but knowing the base station would alert me anyway gave me some peace of mind. Everything is working much smoother now, and I would still give it five stars. I’m a first time mom and super concerned with the well-being of my son. After having a miscarriage with my first child, I’m obsessed with protecting my second. The owlet sock is the best purchase I have ever made and I HIGHLY recommend it. The customer service department worked with me every step of the way when there were issues with the app. Nothing is perfect, but these devices are as close as perfect gets.
