  • Syncing failures and UI elements disappear

    FCGreg

I’ve been using this app for a few years and it consistently had syncing problems, but has recently taken steps backwards on the UI as well. First the syncing because it is the most serious: Unless you have a good connection to the server during the entire edit, you will likely lose whole portions of your note because it never made it to the server. And, since it didn’t make it to the server, the data will be lost forever (the app loses it entirely). Unfortunately, you won’t know that the data has been lost until you check it again later only to find large chunks are missing (or the entire note if it was a new note). IMHO the entire syncing/queueing portion of the app should be rewritten, and/or a proper MQ framework added— data loss is unacceptable.UI problems: recent versions of the app frequently lose the navigation controls after editing a note. Then there doesn’t seem to be any way to recover except for force-closing the app. I have to do this on a regular basis when editing saving any note.Since I have lost whole portions of note edits multiple times now, and lost entire notes when they were new, I cannot trust this app anymore for anything other than reading existing notes on the server.

  • Won't stay logged in

    Jamie-Autumn

I can successfully log in, but once I'm logged in it immediately disconnects. For a free app (albeit one that requires a paid service to sync to), if I could log in and stay logged in long enough to sync my notes, this would be a 4 star app. It's nothing fancy, but it's functional and it's not spying on me or otherwise nonconsensually monetizing my PII/content/activity.But the fact that it literally will not allow me log in with app passwords (I have to log in with my main nextcloud credentials - which is a huge security risk) and won't stay logged in for even 15 seconds after successfully authenticating makes this a 1.5 star app. It could be so good if I could just connect to my nextcloud instance.Even better if it would support my nextcloud E2EE and non-markdown RTF or notes-linking.

  • NOT v26 ready despite latest update claim

    JustTheAppPlease

This app used to work pretty well as a bare bones app for nextcloud notes up to nextCloud v25 but for server v26 it’s pretty broken. The app constantly disconnects when you switch to another app and refuses to reconnect to the note you were just editing, which leaves you to completely reboot the app every edit. Instead of natively editing the note through the app it brings up the web interface for note editing which is slow and does not properly fit the phone screen. The app constantly goes out of sync with the notes on the server and presents you with an unreadable interface to select which version of the note is up to date. You no longer can switch between markdown and preview mode when editing a document even though it’s saving everything in markdown. All in all just needs way more polished to be used with a v26 nextcloud server.

  • Buggy but somewhat useful

    KwisatzJim

Getting the menu that lets you paste to show can be an exercise in frustration. Tap somewhere to type and the onscreen keyboard will most likely cover the area your about to type in. If you dont refresh after closing a new note you created its likely to lose everything you just typed. Other than that it’s a somewhat useful app. Update: a bug that’s been here a while and still is after today’s update is that when you do a search, open a note, close the note, the search field is gone. The only way to get it back is to force close the app and reopen it.

  • It works.. but note editing in the app is better

    VillIDT

The app works, it lets you connect to your Nextcloud and edit notes… it has no formatting options at all. Very round about ways to make lists, and if you tap anywhere in the editor it takes you there to edit even if you are just trying to scroll. There is a reading mode, but it doesn’t allow you to check boxes of you finally figured out out to make them. The notes section in the base app works way better, gives you all the editing tools you need. Just use that in my opinion.

  • Needs Work

    GGonJR

It is nice to be able to sync notes with nextcloud but this app seems to function more as a web wrapper than a native app. It disconnects all the time even if you are in the middle of editing notes. I wouldn’t rely on it but it does allow you to take quick notes which is useful.

  • Not production ready

App is missing core functionality such as: multi-step undo. No support for multiple accounts/profile-switching such as work/home. There is a strong focus on markdown instead of getting robust plain-text support to work first. Updates are not well tested in seem to introduce regressions as much as fix exising problems. Older versions which had fewer features, ran smoothly. As of 4.0.4, interaction is slow and clunk-clunk-clunky. Adding text to a note adds ~100ms delay per letter typed (with Notes v4.0.4 and NC 23.0.7)Overall the app is of middling utility, especially considering its age. Best to wait a for quality to matureI recommend using Koder app with nextcloud webdav instead.

  • Doesn't work well

    U.C. 2

When service is intermittent you will lose note data. For example traveling through an area with poor reception. This software is entirely reliant on a connection which is a major design flaw. Notes should be saved locally with a unique tag (such as QOwnNotes does) and then sync and remove tag when available.Instead this software periodically syncs your note to the cloud which is pointless. In a browser this makes sense. On an application, it makes no sense.I encourage the developer to better the synchronization to allow note taking without connection to the server. For now a massive ring will prevent notes until some net connection is established. This is totally unreliable and the same as using the phone's browser to connect online.edit: Just add a Safari shortcut to your home screen from your notes website. Works just as well.

  • Doesn’t work

    Kzatu

I appreciate the developer’s efforts to provide a replacement to Apple’s Notes as it lines up with Nextcloud’s philosophy, but this app doesn’t seem to function. Upon setup it was connected to both my personal and work accounts. I created several personal notes in my personal account. They never appeared on the server. When I switched to my work account, my personal notes were still showing. It’s not a good feeling when you don’t know where your notes are uploading to.

  • Getting better and better!

Been using this off and on for over a year now. When I first starting using it, it was a bit dated but it has really come along well with the push of updates. 👍👍
