Nighthawk is a different kind of Twitter app, designed to pick up where Twitter's own app might’ve let you down.

Your timeline should reflect what you care about, not the opaque agenda of a black-box algorithm. Nighthawk displays tweets in the timeline reverse-chronologically, the way nature intended.

You’re bound to come across some tweets that might rub you the wrong way, which is why Nighthawk provides tons of human-curated filters. Looking to take a break from election chatter? Add the U.S. Politics Smart Filter. Don't care about K-pop? Add the K-pop Smart Filter.

At Team Nighthawk, we're deeply committed to iOS and the Apple ecosystem, so Nighthawk is designed to take advantage of tons of iOS-only features and experiences. We've got rich link previews, haptics, custom home screen icons, the whole nine. And since Nighthawk is paid upfront, we provide all these features without showing you ads or selling your personal information.

- Smart Filters help silence whole topics with just a tap
- The Close Friends timeline elevates the people you care about from the rest of your timeline
- 15+ gorgeous home screen icons and nit-picky preference for the control freaks in all of us
- Wicked fast performance on all devices

What’s New

Version 2020.4.2

This update fixes an issue that prevented some users from enabling Smart Filters or following/unfollowing others.

Thanks for the positive response so far! We've been overwhelmed by the support from new and existing users during the iOS 14 launch.

This build adds fixes to improve the speed of the current Vanity widget and paves the way for coming widgets and a few other cool surprises.

It's hard to believe, but it's been more than a year since Nighthawk's first public betas, and we've learned a lot about your needs and our place in users' daily lives since then.

We've doubled down the things that make Nighthawk unique over the past year, and we'll continue doing so. This release is all about getting you up to date with features just for iOS 14. We're launching our first widget, which we jokingly call the "Vanity" widget, today, and we've got many more widgets and Shortcuts actions on their way.

In the background, we've also made some big changes with iOS 14 features. We now leverage far more sophisticated and precise machine learning tools in Smart Filters, and the Smart Filter engine has expanded to learn from the general chatter on your own personal timeline, too, so they should get better each time you check the app.

We have a lot more coming in the future, including tons of long-awaited improvements, and we can't wait to share it all with you over the next few weeks.

Perfect and Clean Timeline

This is a solid app that does exactly what it says on the tin. If you want a simple, pristine timeline with no distractions or algorithmic chicanery, then this is the one. There’s only a single issue that keeps me from using it exclusively: the tiny image previews. While viewing the timeline any embedded images are presented as squat letterboxed rectangles. It’s extra frustrating considering that even while holding my iPad vertically, there’s so much wasted space in the app on the sides, which draws further attention to the minuscule image previews. An option to choose the preview size would make this a must-have app.

Love the minimalism

This app has become beautiful and elegant due to the careful omission of certain features. I love it for providing a unique experience and don't want it to become like the rest. However, the inability to save images has caused me to have to keep the standard twitter app on my phone :((

Adding image saving would in no way compromise the minimal philosophy of the app and I really think its needed.

Less features than expected

One extra star for the “eat up Martha” reference and icon. Otherwise, where’s all of the standard functionality? I don’t want to sound like I’m advertising for another app, so I won’t mention any names. But this app has fewer features than my preferred twitter app...
...and one extra star for the fast and polite developer response. This one doesn’t meet my current needs. I will certainly check in again on future versions and features. And I won’t seek a refund, because it’s important to encourage young developers to keep working. (It’s only a few bucks.)
Good luck guys!

Developer Response ,

Hi Matt,

We're sorry to hear Nighthawk didn't meet your expectations. We've attempted to be as clear as possible in our promotional materials and App Store descriptions about what we are, but sometimes that just gets lost in translation, and we apologize.

We don't mean for Nighthawk to replace any existing Twitter apps you may use — whether from Twitter itself or a third party. Instead, we're hoping that Nighthawk can fill in the gap for people who are dissatisfied with what they can get out of social media right now.

Nighthawk is an evolving product. Work began about six months ago, and we've only focused in on two experiences so far, but they're two experiences we want to do better than anyone else, and we think they're important enough that they deserve a role in at least some people's lives. As two young people, we unfortunately can't afford to continue building more unless we charge a little for the work we do.

If you're dissatisfied with your purchase, we would absolutely urge you to seek a refund through Apple's systems to do so — we don't want you to pay for an experience you don't think is right for you. That said, we hope you'll give Nighthawk another shot later on as we continue to mature.
