"Best Alarm Clock App" -

With music alarms, a built-in sleep timer, weather info, customizable photo backgrounds, and an included shake-on / shake-off flashlight, Nightstand Central turns your device into the ultimate bedside "hub".

Wake up to your favorite tunes and drift into sleep a little easier with the included sleep timer. You can play everything from music playlists to relaxing sounds, with additional support for audio from other applications. If you need to get up in the middle of the night, just shake to toggle the included flashlight, and shake again to turn it off. When you wake up, you can see the current weather conditions before you get out of bed.

Nightstand Central is equally at home away from the bedside, as well. Stand your device on a desk or coffee table and use it as a beautiful photo frame with heads-up time and weather information.

Many features in Nightstand Central can be tweaked to fit your preferences, for example:
-Pick wallpapers from your Photo Album and Nightstand Central will automatically cycle the background image among these how ever often you'd like. You can mix and match your own photos and any of the beautiful included wallpapers, as well.
-Set up different music alarm playlists for different days. Your alarm will even gently fade in by default - it's up to you.
-Configure the clock / weather HUD to make it bigger, smaller, centered, or move it off to one side or the other

If you'd like, give away your old, standalone alarm clock, and replace it with something that truly stands out - your iOS device running Nightstand Central.

What’s New

Version 4.7.4 contains a bug fix.

Also includes changes first introduced in 4.7.1:
-Support for full screen resolution on all current Apple mobile devices
-Added 14 beautiful new wallpaper options, photographed by winners of Wikimedia's "Wiki Loves Earth" contest
-New weather condition icons, designed by Patrick Loonstra (
-Larger text on the next alarm indicator for most devices (in the lower left of the main clock screen)
-The countdown next alarm indicator (e.g. "Alarm in 7h 3m") is now the default. Other options, including disabling this indicator, can be configured in Nightstand's settings.
-New alarms now default to gradually fade in from 1% to 100% volume over one minute. This can be changed for each alarm in that alarm's settings.
-Auto-Lock is now disabled while using Nightstand Central, regardless of if the device is on battery power or plugged in.
-It is now possible to shortcut to the sleep timer settings by tapping the center bottom of the main clock display (as long as an alarm isn't sounding or snoozed).
-Lullaby now works in the background (for included sounds and music only), and Nightstand's state (including which screen you are currently in the app) is now saved in the background. However, please note that Lullaby will not work in the background if another app's "Background Audio" audio is selected. I know this may sound confusing, but in order to turn off another app's background audio after Nightstand's Lullaby finishes, you need to keep Nightstand open in the foreground. Please also note the following changes to alarms:
-You now will need to keep Nightstand Central running with the screen on all night in order for alarms to sound consistently. If you select "Important Changes" under the list of alarms in Nightstand Central, you will be able to see a list of helpful suggestions, such as how to decrease the screen brightness to its lowest setting and how to change Do Not Disturb settings so that you aren't disturbed by notifications or calls in the middle of the night.

Works fairly well...

My initial review was in January 2015 after only 30-days of use, and I liked it then, and I still like it now. My only complaint at that time was it struggled with changing orientations on the iPhone 5S. Since the advent of the larger iPhone Plus, landscape mode is no longer necessary to get a decent view. It's quite attractive when mounted on a vertical stand whereby I can set revolving screen savers every so often. I also like the ability to swipe my finger up or down to adjust the brightness. I can set it low enough while still being able to read it but not so bright to annoy me when I'm trying to sleep.

Unfortunately, while it's active, it seems to cancel out the iPhone's 'Do Not Disturb' setting and for light sleepers, this can be a problem. Either I become used to it, or I just don't receive very many notices throughout the night, so I still use it. Also, it occasionally turns off during the evening. Occasionally I wake up and observe the screen is off. Again, perhaps the 'Do Not Disturb' setting is somehow canceled and returns the iPhone back to normal automatic sleep mode. So, after a year and 10-months, I still can't raise my rating above four.

Almost Just Right!!

I like all the features on this application. What I really don’t like is that it doesn’t work in the background like the alarm clock that comes with my phone. If I have to remember to open the application every night before I go to sleep then I run the risk of forgetting to “Turn On My Alarm.” My anxiety is so high while I sleep because of this. It causes me to have a terrible nights sleep. I’m not sure that using this alarm is worth it. I would use the alarm on my phone but it doesn’t have the fade in feature. I can’t stand being scared awake in the morning. This was the selling point for me choosing this application. At this point I’m not sure which is worse. Being scared awake or having a terrible nights sleep.

I would also like the application to override my lock screen with having to program the application to not allow my phone to go into lock. I don’t like having my phone on all night using unnecessary power. I also don’t like the unnecessary light being generated by my phone. I prefer a dark bedroom. It would be better if the application overrode the lock screen when the alarm goes off so all I have to do is put the stop button to shut off the alarm or turn on the snooze. Right now if I don’t tell the application to stay on all night I have to unlock my phone to be able to get to these options.

Works for me (couple minor improvement suggestions)

I have used this app now for months, maybe even longer. I really, really like it’ tho’ I have a couple very minor suggestions for improvements.
When you are setting the alarm, and have set all the settings and now are clicking the buttons to save and go back to the home/alarm screen, through that whole process as your saving and going back the save button is always on the same side except for one step. I only bring this up because if in the middle of the night you decide you want to turn off the alarm currently set and set a net time and you’re doing this 1/2 awake and in the dark if you guess wrong at which step changes from left to right (or vice versus you’ll hit cancel instead of save.
The other suggestion is I WISH that I could say how long I want the snooze to be. 5 minutes is too short and 10 minutes is too long. I’d love to be able to type in or select 8 or whatever amount I want it to be.
Ok. Again minor improvement suggestions but thought I’d share. Thanks !!
