Heavy Cannons - Twin slow but powerful plasma cannon.

NimbleNaut

I've played so many horrid shmups on my phone (there seems to be an outpouring of them since Apple embraced 64bit), so I wasn't really sure if I would enjoy NimbleNaut.
And... after dying in my first play... I still wasn't really sure if I was onboard with it or not. However:;: by my 5th game or so, I was getting hooked. And now, I'm pretty sure that this will NEVER leave my iDevice!
The graphics are pretty slick and very well done, the controls are super tight and adjustable in the options menu (1:1 relative touch movement up to something like 10:1), and a difficulty slider that can be adjusted on-the-fly, which is super cool.
The stars that you collect filling up your gauge for a super laser/beam weapon was a great inclusion and the scoring system is perfect for score chasers, especially once the multipliers for destroying bosses get thrown into the equation.
There's a decent variety of enemies, the bullet patterns, while not really complex, are well done and travel at a good speed, and the bosses having destructible sections is always a cool aspect in shoot-em-ups.
The developer has also been really engaged with the communities on TouchArcade and Reddit and seems really interested in player feedback, and from the sound of it, this game is only going to get better with the next update or two.

I really can not recommend this game enough. It's always great having another shmup to play, but even greater when you find one that's this well made.
And at $0.99, I feel like I should have paid more. It's definitely worth a few more bucks. But that also makes it cheap enough that if you have friends that enjoy the genre, it'll be pretty easy to gift them copies so that you can all battle it out on the scoreboards together.
