As lovely as is the GTD implementation, and it is exceptionally well done, the user experience is such a barrier that I can’t stick with it. Long time Things user! I tried to convert to Nirvana. I even had AI write me a script to extract from Things and populate Nirvana. But after one day using it in real life, I found that it takes just too many button pushes to do anything. The visual presentation is ugly and industrial. And the so-called cross-platform lacks essential features in other devices some of which are fairly buggy. The web version is the only one that really works, and that’s so 2000’s. So I cancelled. The vendor’s reputation, confirmed by my own past experience, of unresponsive customer service and a lackluster roadmap, made it a lot easier. Such a shame!

Nirvana has always been a very good GTD app to manage tasks. However I chose to leave them early last year as I was frustrated with their development speed, communication with their customers, and concern that as it was a part time affair for the developers it wasn't clear to me it wouldn't be a robust platform for which to invest my time and energy nor support.I was surprised to learn of their recent upgrade in October and while I hadn't found an alternative solution that had meet all my needs, I decided to throw caution to the wind and try the new Nirvana again.I was very happy with the update and felt very comfortable with the app. It is a solid update that mostly was cosmetic but offers some enhancements. I have also been happy with the communication from the development team with a quick response to questions and a dedication to community blog posts and updates. While they haven't published a feature roadmap, I am more optimistic today than before that they are committed to this endeavor and the development speed will improve. I have decided to give them another shot for the next year and see where it can go. There are a few things that need added, Evernote integration, notifications, badge app icons, forced next actions, reminders, and ticklers, it is still a very good app. Very well thought out and nice features that you only know that you would miss if you left. I am happy about using the app again and look forward to being more productive.

  • Almost a great productivity app

I loved Nirvana at first! But I had to switch because of the reoccurring tasks feature. The app lets you create repeating tasks but if you don't complete them the day they're scheduled then Nirvana still continues to make copies of the task anyway. This is really annoying for daily tasks (ex: taking vitamins) & repeating tasks that you might not have time to do every time they're scheduled (ex: exercising every morning.) My next & focus lists were quickly flooded with duplicate copies of the same task. It's also really confusing to change/edit/delete the repeating task because you have to find the original copy of the task to make any changes which is very difficult with 10 new copies of the same task. But other than that I really loved this app & its the best GTD app I've seen. I wish they would make it a priority to change the repeating tasks feature but they said "it's not on our focus list at this time." I want to come back to Nirvana but just like most people, there are many reoccurring tasks in my personal & professional life and Nirvana makes these tasks overwhelming & difficult to manage.

  • Excellent organizing tool

Are you nerdy about organizing your life? Will you spend hours building a system and workflow in order to save yourself just a few minutes every time you touch a certain task? Do you like to have things in their right place? This app is designed specifically around the GTD method, and in my experience with trialing all sorts of options out there I believe Nirvana does the best job following the system created by David Allen. For those new to GTD, as I am, the process takes a unique approach to task management which requires an initial investment of time and consideration to lay out a map for how to best integrate it into your life. For instance, I spent a full weekend working on integrating it into my email systems (Outlook Exchange for work and Gmail at home) as well as building a system that fits my needs within Nirvana, and today I continue to find ways to tweak the system for increasing productivity. Read or listen to the book first, otherwise this app may be confusing for you.

  • Great app; needs bug fixes (will update review if it improves)

If you are a GTD enthusiast you will no-doubt love the beautiful design and simplicity of this app. It is the most GTD-friendly to-do app I have found (and I have tried A LOT of apps). Unfortunately within the last few months it has become unusable. It no longer accurately syncs and updates when I mark something as “done” or deleted after I close the app and open it again. It is inconsistent and not always the same items that “come back” being done/deleted. Needless to say, this is very frustrating. I upgraded to the paid version since I enjoy the app so much but sadly the issue has not resolved. I have tried upgrading my phone, I have uninstalled/reinstalled, reset the app, tried different devices, turned off/on sync, stopped using sync altogether, and the problem remains despite all of these remedies. If developers fix this critical issue I will come back and update this review. Thanks!

  • Clean GTD app lacking a few crucial functions

    LeGing_

In terms of clean look and GTD features, I loved Nirvana initially and paid $50 for a lifetime membership. I also love and use the Focus feature everyday. However I failed to realize a few downfalls prior to buying and despite much time investment building up my system in Nirvana, I’m considering switching apps. Most importantly, there is no collaborative feature, so I cannot have joint projects or share tasks with my partner, which is very disappointing and I have to use multiple clunkier and less effective apps, which is wearing on us. Though push notifications were apparently added finally as a feature after years of user complaints, I have yet to witness this to work on any of my devices despite updating, scouring settings, etc. There are a few other design flaws that seem they could be easily addressed and have been requested by users to no avail - I unfortunately get the impression that the Nirvana team is neither responsive nor quick to adapt to user feedback.
