NKODA is the deal of the century for classical copyrighted scores

For those interested in classical orchestral and other instrumental combinations, especially piano, this is an invaluable tool and for the money a steal. For what you would pay for one copyrighted orchestral - things you cannot get from IMSLP - you can get a year’s subscription to NKODA. On a big iPad, scores are displayed nicely, as good as paper. Of course there are many things not available, but what they have will keep you busy for a long, long, long time.

Thanks for your review! It's so great to hear you're enjoying nkoda.

Nice idea but . . .

It’s a completely USELESS app. Classical musicians should NEVER consider this hideous scam. It’s literally impossible to use the music allegedly available on this app - music can’t be printed, can’t be downloaded, can’t be used in other apps (especially GREAT apps like ForScore). On top of that, you will get LOCKED OUT when trying to obtain a copy of parts so that they can be used by quality programs, again, such as ForScore.

First of all, IMSLP is a far better for most of the music I need - orchestral parts. Nkoda is expensive ($120/year) and simply not worth it for my needs. Also, I find the inability to print the music to be EXTREMELY annoying. Finally, for things that are not available on IMSLP (etudes, solo pieces, etc.), many of the best editions are NOT on Nkoda.

This is a total waste of money and Nkoda is simply a scam.

Hi Jeff,

I'm sorry to hear that you feel nkoda is not useful for you at the moment. As our support team explained in our correspondence with you to unlock your account, nkoda is a digital-only library designed to both increase musicians' access to editions still in copyright, as well as simultaneously protecting composer and publisher copyrights. It is for this reason that we do not allow the screenshotting, downloading and printing of nkoda content.

I'm sorry if you do not agree with us on this for now, but our project is dedicated to the fair payment of artists around the world, and this informs our subscription price and security policy. We're always happy to discuss this further with you through our support team.

Terrible new app

I’m a professional musician so the scores are indispensable. However it’s become so difficult to operate. Much slower and time consuming now. As an example, the Bartok Concerto for Orch score doesn’t seem to fit the screen, is crooked on some pages and cut off on others. Get rid of the screen that says “you already have the reader app”, just go straight to the app! I already quit my membership once and I’ll give it another try, but I’m saddened by these changes and don’t know how much longer I can rely on this app. Also seems like the parts hardly have any margins for notes now which isn’t going to work…I’m sure there are workarounds for many of these things but it’s definitely not apparent or easy to use.

Thanks for your review.

Upcoming updates to the nkoda music reader will allow you to search the library directly without having to go back to the nkoda library app. To search the complete nkoda catalogue or view content saved in your library or playlists you will need to use the library app for now.

To add margins for notes, please head to your reader 'Settings', under Score display settings select 'Border', and then change border size.

We also have tutorials on YouTube that show you how to get set up on the music reader - we hope they can help you get to know what the reader can do.
