Quitting smoking is hard - we get it. Whether you’re trying to quit for the first time or you’ve been down this road before, the most important thing is to keep trying! And it wouldn’t hurt to have some help along the way.

That’s where No Butts comes in.

No Butts was created by Kick It California, a stop smoking service and research-based program at the University of California, San Diego. Kick It California has been helping smokers quit since 1992, using clinically proven methods. We also understand that you’re a busy person who may need help while on the go. The following features will help you prepare to quit, and stay quit, with strategies you can get right from the palm of your hand.

1. My Plan
- Tell us a little about yourself. Answer a few, simple questions so we can get to know you better. Once you’re done, No Butts will create a stop smoking plan just for you.

2. Log

- Keep track of your triggers. This can help you understand your smoking behavior better. It will also help you with your stop smoking plan. Logging your triggers can get you ready to deal with those times when you most want to light up.

3. Dashboard
- The dashboard offers a quick view of how you’re doing, as well as important reminders. This includes your main reason to quit smoking and how many days it’s been since you quit. You’ll see this each time you open the app. You’ll also learn about positive changes happening to your body after quitting. And you’ll get a summary of all triggers that you entered in the Log together with helpful strategies.

4. Quit Tools

- You’ll find a lot of helpful things in this section. You can read about the different quitting aids available, see checklists to get you ready for your quit date, and click on links to resources that you may find helpful. Be sure to check these and the many other useful tidbits in this section.

Welcome to the 21st Century

Stopping smoking is incredible hard. Having an app like this is a great tool to support your efforts to breaking the habit.

Amazing potential but currently nearly useless

I can tell this app is on the verge of greatness, but unfortunately large sections of it are unusable because the text appears to be the exact same color as the background in several key places. I can’t finish My Plan because the questions it wants me to answer are unreadable, as are the options in the drop-downs. If you try to add a trigger, it’s a list of white text on a white background. If I tap where the text should be, it flashes a black background for a second and I can tell there is white text there before going to the plan page, which has the exact same issues of white text on a white background. How these glaring issues ever got past basic usability testing is beyond me, but currently I can only really read an FAQ and see a collection of informational PDFs. This could be a super useful tool to help with quitting smoking if they only fixed the white text on white backgrounds for the the trigger planning section and black text on black backgrounds for the my plan questions. Not sure why the text in any visible for the drop-down/scroll-wheel answer section in the my plan section, but that also needs fixing. Ironically, the feedback screen has the same problem of text and backgrounds being the same color so you can’t even read what you’re typing there either. So close to a five-star app if it was just readable.

Can’t use it completely

There are a lot of glitchy bits in this app, unfortunately you can’t read everything. I’m not sure if it’s just not populating or if the font is just the same color as the background because I cannot highlight anything on the app. :(
