An alternative to structured meditation platforms, Non uses sound to develop the practice of active listening and invite deepened states of consciousness.
Sound provides an immediate and powerful means to find a point of focus and emotionally connect with the present.
Non produces each sound note by note, making no two sessions ever alike. The soundscapes you hear have not been pre-recorded—they are uniquely yours in that moment.
A lack of familiarity with each passing note means you may approach each session unclouded by expectation—using sound as an infinite pathway for self exploration.
GENERATIVE SOUND MEDITATIONS
Beneath Non’s surface is a nuanced algorithm that intelligently generates sounds based on your preference, environment, time of day, and motion. Each session generates a unique audio composition based on these variables. Non’s proprietary, generative algorithm is the key to the app’s diversity of sound, and the corresponding range of experiences it supports.
A SINGLE GESTURE
Swipe, press, release, and begin. Using 3D Touch, a single gestural sequence initiates an immediate, seamless experience.
Based on your current location and position relative to the sun, Non’s user interface adapts to reflect the tone of that particular time of day. This response to your surroundings inspires a direct connection to the ever-changing nature of your physical world.
A DIVERSITY OF SOUND
Non offers a unique blend of organic and synthesized sounds—drawing from contemporary minimal music, traditional world instrumentation, ASMR, and electroacoustic production. This breadth of musical inspiration, combined with extensive sound research, afford a multi-layered, yet cohesive experience.
CALMING OR FOCUSING
To begin each session, you select your desired energy level. Whether you seek calming tones to induce sleep, sonic stimulation to help focus at work, or an auditory vanishing point to guide an existing meditation practice, Non responds with a unique sound meditation tailored to your intent.
TACTILE AND CONNECTIVE
Utilizing haptic feedback, each gesture is fully integrated with your experience. Any movement of your device directly impacts the sound you hear.
◦ Overhaul of audio system (improved sound clarity and audio performance)
◦ Sound now dynamically optimizes based on listening device (internal speaker, headphones, or external speakers)
◦ New sound generators.
◦ Audio continues after switching to a Bluetooth device mid-session.
◦ Significantly optimized CPU usage (better battery life, device temperature)
◦ Fix for day / night cycle in multiple countries.

The Epitome of Good (App) Design
I am a daily user of Non, often using the app more than once a day. I listen to sound meditations at my desk, while commuting, before going to bed, while reading, doing yoga, and elsewhere. This is truly the best app on my phone, because it puts you in control of your experience and encourages mindfulness beyond the screen. The diversity of sound is nothing less than incredible. Each time I use the app is a completely different experience, from the color to the sound, each is an entirely different universe. I wish there were more apps like this, that didn’t try and manipulate your experience by tricking you into using it, imposing on your mental space and free time with notifications or reminders. Not only is the functionality perfect and unlike anything else on the market, but it also is all wrapped in beautiful minimal design. Bravo to the Point in Passing team. Thanks for bringing this thing to the world!
I love this app, don’t get me wrong. But while I love the diversity and randomness of the sounds, it would be lovely to be able to change which ones it picks from. I am not at all a fan of rain sounds, or any water related sounds for that matter. Maybe a settings menu where you can select and deselect from the array of sounds? And one final question: where is the settings menu you said would come in January?
Developer Response ,
Hey! Thanks so much for the feedback. We love your idea re: sound customization, we have that in our development pipeline, but it will require a pretty significant overhaul on our end to implement, so it may be quite awhile yet. Also, re: settings menu, it’s been completed, but we are in the middle of a HUGE update and want to make sure all the bugs are fixed before we roll it out. As an indie developer, it’s more difficult to predict how long things will take and when we can get them done by, but we appreciate your patience and for sticking with us!!
Sensory meditation is awesome
I spent my Spring practicing at a Zazen temple near where i live. While i was there, i fell in love with the rituals they performed around meditation; and how much it enhanced the meditation itself.
Upon coming back, none of the meditation apps I had come anywhere close to reproducing the deep trances of those rituals. Until I found non.
The “sensory meditation” this app provides has sense become my favorite way to meditate at home - would highly recommend it
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
