Noriko is a lightweight and fun, yet detailed Japanese language learning app. Using interactive, bite-sized lessons you’ll learn how to speak Japanese in no time!

Noriko makes it fun to learn by giving you sentence models to enter your own words to finish the sentence, with grammatical explanations to help you understand how the Japanese language works. It’s not as bad as you think

Just as I was writhing this review, the app apparently looked weird where I can only see the bottom of the screen. I don’t know how to fix this so I had to drop a star since I can access all the sections to write my review

Edit 2: The problem in the first edit SEEMS to be fixed but I don’t know if it will happen again

Edit 3: as a response to the developer, I really do like the grammar levels that were in the grammar section. In terms of the explanations they are superb. if the developer could do something like that, adding more levels to the grammar section with information from the sentence models and expanding on them and giving exercises to those as well, then I would say this would be a solid app for grammar. As for the title screen, it one has never learned Japanese before the best way to order it would be -> Writing Systems, Grammar, and then maybe Misc. Sections for things like the numbers and any other extra information that your willing to share with the user. The sentence models could always be added to the grammar sections tucked somewhere the user can see it if they ever need a refresher. I think that’s all I have to say for now.

For one thing, I love the way it teaches some of the items in the grammar section. It’s clean, straightforward, and the native audio sounds great (no TTS!!)
But then everything else kinda lacks in throughout explanations.
The sentence structures for example aren’t all that clear in how to conjugate certain verbs/adjs to fit the sentence and aren’t the best for someone who’s just learning how to use that grammar, maybe expand upon certain pints and then introduce the sentence structure accordingly?
Also, along with expanding on grammar terms, there’s does need to be a structure of where the user should start in terms of learning + more advanced grammar topics?

Developer Response ,

Thank you very much for your feedback and sorry for the bug. We are going to check it immediately. Your feedback / advice is concrete and really helpful for us ! You are right, grammar points and sentence structures should be introduced as a set. Which parts of the grammatical explanation did you like ? Anyway, we will definitely take into account your feedback.

Thank you again for your updated feedback ! Your detailed feedback helps us so much. Actually, we are working on a project to improve the app largely. We really want to meet user's expectations ! It takes time, but we're going to make it. Thank you in advance for your continued support !

Not Much To Do On The App

I downloaded this app even though it lacked reviews, hoping that it might be one of a kind. The maker of an app needs to have a clear vision on what he/she wants the student to learn. As soon as you open the app up, there are different categories and when you click on a category, it’s basically just like a dictionary. There’s not a purpose for this app if it doesn’t help you retain the knowledge and there’s not a vast amount of information to even keep you wanting to use it as a dictionary. It’s easy to Google things and figure out what something means. I don’t feel like the creator tried too much. There’s not even different tabs and there’s nothing to gauge your interest. It would be nice to have quizzes, thorough explanations, and maybe eventually videos to help someone actually learn something!

Awesome app!

I think this is a perfect app for a beginner or someone who feels intimidated by the concept of earning Japanese. The app is user friendly and very organized which makes it easy to navigate. It lets you learn as much or as little as you want! I especially like the feature you can switch between Japanese character and English alphabet. I definitely recommend this app especially for someone who has been “thinking about” learning Japanese but just hasn’t started!
