The Northern Lights! are unpredictable so we do not try to predict or forecast, instead we use our 13 specially made Aurora cameras in Lapland, Norway, Iceland, USA, and Alaska that are linked to a detection system a bit like face recognition, we send you real-time alerts when the majestic aurora is detected. You can either watch live in HD ad free or get directions to the show.
Set your alert level, Visible to the eye, Aurora moving slowly, or Sky's Alive.
Unlike all other alert apps in existence, which rely on NOAA ‘space weather’ forecasts that requires experience to use, and is often old data, Live Aurora Network sends out real time alerts based on what is actually seen in the sky, we send alerts based on the visual detection of aurora from our Network of Cameras. currently in Iceland, Norway, Alaska, USA, Sweden
Our unique algorithm not only detects the aurora borealis, but visually grades it based on the strength of the aurora. Users can choose the level they wish to be notified at so that they need only hit the road for displays they deem suitable.
All other top selling Aurora notification apps currently on the market are based on the global Kp index which runs from 0-9 and is based on magnetometers around the world. This is problematic for local aurora alerts, and not the most effective parameter for knowing when local auroral activity is highest.
Live Aurora Network pushes out alerts in real time, thanks to software designed to detect the colours of the Aurora, while grading the density and percentage of the sky that is showing the lights. This is especially helpful to find breaks in the clouds!
Also, in this app:
- HD live stream from every location
- Zoomable map of Iceland, Norway, USA, Sweden, Alaska with directions to our dark sky areas.
- Localized weather forecast at each location.
- Current Live KP rating
- Customisable alert level
Fixed camera feeds

I love this app but…
It’s wonderful to see the Northern Lights and the Sky is Alive notification is great. However, Norway has 1 camera 12 - Lyngenalps, that is always dark even when notified that the sky is alive there. 1 camera 10 - Senjaislands that is pointed at the street and the water. Last year, the problem was Iceland. Do they have people in each city to maintain these cameras and/or do the developers double check the app for these issues on a regular basis? I think it would be a good addition to the app to allow users to notify them immediately through the app that there are issues. Perhaps a link we could click to notify you promptly of issues? If they could fix the ongoing camera issues, I’d give this app 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Not living near Aurora yet suffering from Lights Fever after a few trips hunting them, I have a gazillion sites saved in a folder on my phone that are live camera links. I love this app, unfortunately not for its alerts or anything since they don’t apply to me, but just for the ease of use and switching cameras. A few areas are new to me and I thought I had every camera/website/group already discovered! Easy to switch, pretty self explanatory, simple app.
I get to search regions, check for activity (then watch live at she dances across the sky) and dream of retirement when I’ll move to one of these locations….😍
Great app but...
First, I do enjoy this app. Having the notification when the sky comes alive is a great feature. But I find that, at least for Iceland, the cameras are often out of focus or have a weird light too close to them. The videos themselves are very hard to click on when viewing a camera. The close button is difficult to press because it’s overlaid with the video options. The left and right buttons are difficult to hit because of the video options. I have yet to find a way to purchase the app without having to watch the extremely annoying ads.
