Noted․ Record Every Moment 4+

So close to being my top note-taking app

If Noted only expanded interoperability through Shortcuts or callbacks, and added cloud storage, it'd be my go-to. This from someone who has used Obsidian, Notion, Bear, Ulysses, Agenda, OneNote, UpNotes, Notebooks, Apple Notes, Evernote, and probably others I'm forgetting. The voice recording with timetags features, especially on Apple Watch, are huge. I love that I can keep both audio and transcribed text and am not forced to choose.

But I process my notes through GPT using Shortcuts, and need them to be indexable in DevonThink, and here it falls short. Seriously developers, you're so close to having the best note-taking app. Go the extra mile!

Great start with lots of room to grow

I would say that this is the foundation of a fantastic app that has a lot of promise. The interface is great and the features that it does have are well executed. I was looking for an app that handles note-taking and audio recording, and Noted serves both of those functions well.

My issue has to do with the walled ecosystem that a tool like this creates. People like myself jump from tool to tool and want to be able to export and move our data around. For me, I use Bear as my primary note repository, and wanted to use Noted as a way to take notes during meetings while recording the audio. Again, it does do that exceedingly well. However, if I wanted to move a note from Noted into Bear (or Evernote, or any other "digital bucket" type app), you quickly run into limitations. You can copy/paste text but a lot of the formatting gets lost. That's why I prefer to type in Markdown, which Noted doesn't handle. You can pull audio out easily enough, but better handling of the text is what I need.

Dictation and Desktop app not great

I like the concept and design of Noted a lot. I have always struggled with notetaking, and the ability to dictate my notes is so helpful, as is the ability to play a recording and timestamp my typed notes.

I am mostly using this to dictate notes on my phone as I read books and articles. Unfortunately, the dictation isn't very accurate in this app. I thought that would be okay, because I would just go back throught the note on the desktop version and clean up any errors and make sure my bullet points were where I wanted them, using a regular keyboard for efficiency. But, in any note that includes much audio recording, the desktop app runs INCREDIBLY SLOWLY so it is not very feasible to clean up notes after the messy dictation. I would have to painstakingly go through them on my tiny phone screen, or i have to keep sitting and waiting while my note loads on the desktop app, and then restarting it when it crashes.
