Notefile

Still use this app on my M1 Pro, but sadly it has not been updated in over 7 years. Not sure what happened with Junecloud - used to be very active and then the hit to Deliveries happened and just radio silence. Hope the dev makes a return and updates to this continue with Silicon compatibility.
I’ve been using this app for several years; although it hasn’t been updated in a while, this is still works great. I use it in the menubar, to jot down quick notes/thoughts related to things I’m working on — quick and easy (and much faster than dealing with Notes or similar note-taking apps with a larger footprint. I also have the iOS apps, and sync works great. If there’s something I’d like to see in an update: the ability to pin notes to the top of the list, as well as a dark mode. Otherwise, this is one of my most-used apps: for work and personal use. Here’s hoping the developer will continue to support this app! There is no replacement for this one in terms of simplicity and aesthetics (and I’ve tried almost all the usual suspects in MAS and outside of MAS).
I picked up Notefile over two years ago and it quickly became my favorite and most used app. I have it on my iPhone, iPad (in the dock) and MacBook (Assign to All Desktops). After two plus years it’s still my favorite and most used app. The interface is dead simple so it's easy to add notes quickly. iCloud sync is seamless and near instantaneous. No tags or folders, but the search function makes it easy to find the notes I'm looking for.Had a minor glitch when I upgraded to Yosemite, and Junecloud tech support was outstanding - gave me a quick & easy fix & I was back in business.
I have used this app heavily for years. What I find so helpful is to be able to note an idea or information in whatever subject I choose to compile and have it show up on every device. Sometihng I need from the grocery? Add it to my laptop list and it is on my phone when I want my grocery list. If a clien calls going to this app is just as fast as picking up a piece of paper -- my criteria for usefulness -- for making notes to that client's file. Simple and effective.
Junecloud has never disappointed me with any of their apps. Hats off to the developer for a job well done here with Notefile too!I use this mainly to store some canned email response templates that I frequently use, since my company’s email web tool does not work properly with text-expanders (and truth be told, I’m old-fashioned and prefer to copy/paste anyways). It’s nice to have easy access to the text snippets via the menu bar.At the moment, there is one small option that I’d like to see added. I’ve selected the preference option to “Hide Automatically” when I de-focus on the note window drop-down from the menu bar, which is a nice touch after I copy some text out and need to get back to my email web tool. However, when I go back to the Notefile menu to copy my next-needed snippet of text, it would be nice to have it automatically show me a list of all my notes again, rather than having to click the ‘gear icon > Find’ or hitting 'Command-F.’ It’s a super-minor thing, I know - so call me crazy or whatever you like :-) But if I at least had the option to set it to by default always go back to the list of all notes when re-opened, or at least be able to do so via one click instead of two, that would be the icing on an already-delicious cake!Anyways, this is still a fantastic app. I know my use for it is a little specialized compared to it’s braoder intentions, but it’s darn-near perfect.
I have lost track of how many years I have used notefile for — but it has had a prominent spot on the home screen of my iPhone and the Dashboard of my Mac for as long as those things were possible. I love Juneclouds simple handy apps! Pony up the few bucks and be rewarded with a simple, stable, useful app.
While i wanted a menubar notepad, (and was obviously ready to spend for it) this is sadly not it.Every time I open my mac (laptop or iMac) a note appears. I have to click to get rid of it. Every. Time. That's pretty annoying - it's the same amount of clicks to use the native notes app which does so much more. This hasn't been updated in a long time - over a year.
Every app this developer puts out is solid. My most recent experience being the culmination of excellence. I've had a Junecloud sync account for a while, and a bunch of notes accross three different devices (Dashboard Widget, iPhone, iPad). I was worried after installing the Mac app that switching to iCloud would decimate any existing notes on my devices. Not a chance. Switched to iCloud on my phone first and it seemed to upload all existing notes. Perfect! Now what about the rest of the applications? Would I end up with a ton of duplicated notes that would need to be sorted through and deleted? Nope. They were recognized as the same note and everything was synced perfectly the moment I switched to iCloud syncing. The only thing I could even think of asking for would be a switch in the settings to allow for numbers, addresses, dates, etc… to be active links akin to the stock Notes applications on iOS. We all can only hope a "Deliveries" menu bar app is on its way soon…
User Ssnape says it has not much more functionality than Apple's built-in Notes, and there's a point there. This is a basic, straightforward notes app. If you need something robust with file attachments and tagged category folders and fancy layout stuff, there are a lot of other options like Evernote or whatever. For my needs, Notefile fills the bill. It syncs with my iPhone and iPad, and keeps my notes. It's quickly and easily accessible, which is one advantage over Apple's Notes app. It doesn't have to take up space in the dock (you can put it in your toolbar instead) which is a big benefit to me since on the 11" MacBook Air my Dock fills up pretty fast. The assignable shortcut key is a nice benefit, too.Honestly, the big selling point for me is that it is tastefully designed. That stupid legal pad background in Notes drives me batty. Notefile doesn't have options to change the background or font either, but they made it good-looking. It's pleasant to look at. The yellow background in Notefile is a subdued tone, like the page of a Moleskine (a little darker.)Notefile keeps it elegant and straightforward. Put another way: Notefile is a Mac, Apple Notes is a PC. A PC running Windows 3.1.
I used to love this app. I have installed it for my own use and at work. At work, we have it on 2 users on the same computer, as well as on an ipad. It worked great until a couple months ago. Then... It keeps screwing up the syncing - sometimes it switches from junecloud to icloud. Sometimes it just won't sync on one user. Then we try to fix it and it over-writes all the newer data with data from a few weeks back, an expensive loss. I wrote tech support and they seemed to provide a generic response that didn't have anything to do with the problem. So, I removed it from the computer, uninstalled it completely, every file, and reinstalled it on both users. Worked for a few days and then started doing the same thing again. This time I lost a couple weeks of data. So we're not using it any more.On my personal computer, synced with my iphone, it is working fine, so far.So, I guess if you don't want to do much syncing, it's okay.
