The NParks Explore A Route (NEAR) mobile app is NParks’ first augmented reality (AR)-enabled mobile application. It was developed to complement the Coast-to-Coast Trail (C2C), as well as the Route Island Route (RIR) and Park Connector Network (PCN) for an interactive curated walking experience island-wide.

Get active while creating trails of your own with our self-mapping feature "Phyll My Trail", or share your experiences with the NEAR community, be it gorgeous sightings or interesting info on places to check out along the way!

Look out for hidden fruits using our AR mode and watch as Phyll the Leaf and friends spring to life, sharing nuggets of information about the flora and fauna found around the various checkpoints along the C2C.

Also, check out your notifications for periodic fun and rewarding challenges as well as special promotions!

Poor App Design

The app appears to have been designed by a disgruntled employee or a government bureaucrat who simply wants to check a box. No inspiration, lacks ooomph, unappealing and unfriendly to users, no sexiness at all. AR is not apparent. Were you just using a buzzword?

Specifically, maps are not drawn to scale and not clear. Why didnt you use Google Apple maps? It should also have a feature to show Directions for people who are mere tourists in SG and not too familiar with the landmarks and places. Integrate it with a good Map app lah!

Don’t bother with this app

This app doesn’t even tell you the distance between the checkpoints despite the GPS tracking it does of your whereabouts. The points of interest feature is the only slightly valuable information the app provides. There is the opportunity to post photos of yourself on the app if that’s important to you. Otherwise, the app is not worth the time it takes to download or the space it takes up on your phone.
