Description

This app will help you count the Omer from Passover to Shavuot by keeping track of the count and giving you the blessing and the Hebrew for each day's count. For each day of the Omer, it will also show you which quality was connected by the Kabbalists with that day, and it will give you a quote related to that quality, along with links to find out more about counting and what it means. It will also help you count the seven weeks from Tisha B'Av to Rosh Hashanah.

What is the Omer? Exactly seven weeks fall between Passover and Shavuot, marking the transition from the redemption in Egypt to the revelation at Sinai. This period is called the Omer, and it also corresponds to the time between the barley harvest and the wheat harvest in ancient Israel. (An omer is a measure of grain, like a bushel.) Each night during the 49 days of this seven week period, the count of the days is recited with a blessing--this ritual is called "Sefirat HaOmer." In Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism), each of the 49 days also corresponds with the purification of a specific quality within ourselves that connects to the divine. These qualities are called "Sefirot," and remembering which qualities correspond to each day has been part of the ritual of counting the Omer since the Middle Ages. The app keeps track of the days and the Sefirot and also includes quotes and intentions for each day. There is also a modern custom, based on the Sefirot and counting the Omer, to similarly count the days from Tisha B'Av to Rosh Hashanah.

What’s New

Version 3.6.1

This version fixes a bug where the app crashed when the connection to the internet was bad or the quote file was corrupted.
A bug was also fixed when switching between yesterday and today didn't update the quote correctly based on the day represented.
The font size of the quote page was reduced to fit more on the page while still being bigger than older versions.

Best omer counting app!

I have been using this for years after several years of unsuccessful attempts at a meaningful Omer practice. I finally found THE app for Counting the Omer! This app is so user friendly, informative, inspirational, and most importantly reminds me to do the count every night ! Thank you!!!!!!!

Loved It … But Crashed ….

This is a go-to app but something happened as i was about to use it for Day 9. It crashed.
Checked to see if there is an update today. Yes there is. Applied it. Nothing.
Not opening. {shrug}. O well.
Prior to that, this was a wonderful app that went beyond the standard fare by applying one’s heart to the requirement to Offer Omer this time of year, amongst other intriguing Offering enhancing considerations.

I will wait a few days. Perhaps it did not like this year’s 9th Day. I can only hope.

If I have one gripe it is the hive-mind of praying for Ukraine. I imagine the developer(s) has/have ancestry in that region. Because, unlike what the western media blabs daily, there are many many armed conflicts happening on this planet to-day … but they aren’t Europeans. What are those poor souls holed up in those messes; chopped liver?
We pray for everyone who finds their life and living threatened by armed conflict in their homeland, from the small village no one cares about to the cities, even in USAmerica, where gun violence is a frequent daily prevalence and a regularity, and those places where strategists figure which best war-toy to use to win the day’s battles.

Developer Response ,

Another bug fix is in version 3.6.1 and should be available in the App store now. There was a server update for the quotes that the app wasn’t prepared for. The app will be more stable on this release.

Well intentioned but badly needs updates

Nice alternative counting app but not polished. Slow response from buttons on bottom ribbon, unintuitive layout, no obvious way to mark past days as counted regardless of status (to accommodate those finding the app during the Omer and still counting with a blessing). Not very user friendly. In summary, if you didn’t get this app before the Omer, you’re out of luck on being able to mark that you’ve counted to personalize your use. Better luck next year. Hopefully an update or several will fix some of this! Would love to see a polished version, as I love the etz chayim / sfirot. But for now, Chabad comes out ahead for the most user friendly, responsive app.
