Be careful if you depend on this app

The app is known to have outages. It seems Insulet does not have adequate staff to maintain the infrastructure, so when there are outages they can last for weeks.

I write that with a sense of ambiguity since Insulet does not openly share information on outages like Dexcom and other medical tech companies.

My suggestion is Insulet approaches their operations as a medical tech company, understands the apps are a core part of their service offering, and treat outages that effect thousands of users as major issues.

Great when it works

We’ve been using the Omnipod Dash system for a couple months now. The benefit of being able to see what our 14-year-old is doing as far as when he’s dosing and for how much, etc., is such a helpful upgrade over the old Omnipod system. Unfortunately, every now and again, the updates we should be receiving from the cloud don’t happen. In two instances, my app stopped providing updates entirely while my wife’s kept working (I’m on iPhone 8 Plus, latest iOS, and she’s on an iPhone 11). Restarting didn’t work. I ended up having to uninstall the app both times and then reinstall and re-invite myself to follow again, at which point it went back to working correctly. The most recent issue has been that 3 days ago, the app started showing the red banner like it does if there hasn’t been an update within 30 minutes, but the IOB and dose history were updating fine as if there wasn’t a problem. Resigned to just deal with getting updates but having it appear as though I wasn’t, I kept going until just a few minutes ago, when the app suddenly replaced the main screen with a message that said “Last Update 3+ Days Ago”. So now I can’t see any info. Guess I’ll be uninstalling/reinstalling again and hoping it fixes the problem, but it’s just a big hassle. If they could fix the updates issue I would give the app 5 stars.

It’s a great storefront

Our active daughter switched from the tube to the Omnipod a month ago and it’s been great! A1C was lower even after the one month which I contributed to this pump and not having to remove the other for hours in the day during practices and events. So the pod is awesome! And this app I thought was a godsend, we could watch what is going on with her insulin at school just like her cgm. And WHEN it works it is, its wonderful and gives us a peace of mind knowing she’s good and doing the right thing, or more like doing the wrong thing that she will hear about when she gets home. But it seems to go in and out of WiFi and not always connect. I’ve had to reconnect it to the same WiFi at home almost daily and the school, if she don’t do it there it doesn’t get done. If they could just make the WiFi software more reliable it would be such a great tool for us parents to rest (lol) a little easier while they are away for us. Hope you have a great day and thanks for reading.
