Focus Is Effective

I created a huge blocklist of gaming websites that my son can't access. and it is so far so good. I also blocked gaming apps including the app store, which is where he downloads those games. I block everything related to video games on his Mac. It helps keep him focused during school hours, especially now with covid making school online at home. All I do is set the time every night to 23 hours and 59 minutes, and my son can't acess anything gaming-related. If he finds a new website, I go to his history and I block that website if it is related to gaming. The best part is, unlike google block extensions, is that he can't find a way to unblock it or delete focus as long as the timer is running. I love it. Thank you so much for creating this undefeatable app!

More I Use = More Flawed It Gets

The longer I use this app, the more I become aware of its long list of limitations. Despite the fact that I have had a subscription for a month or so now, which I now fully regret purchasing, I continue to find issues with this app. I have spent many hours frustrated with how this app functions. First, the fact that there is no option to switch on or off non-active scheduled blocks, like you can with the iPhone Alarm app, is ridiculous and a huge inconvenience to me. Instead, if I no longer want something repeated, I literally have to remake all the blocks ONE BY ONE, which is extremely tedious. Furthermore, the fact that the only repeat options are daily, the entire weekend, every weekday, or just one day of the week is ALSO extremely annoying. Want to schedule a block for Monday and Wednesday? Well, your only option is to create two separate blocks instead of just one because of how this app is built. Lastly, being unable to adjust a block's timing sometimes becomes a huge irritation. I understand the intention is to prevent our bad habits from not adhering to the block but sometimes, I have to adjust the time. However, I'm only allowed to do so after the block has passed, forcing me to wait for hours without ANY option. There are many other issues. I am actively looking for a cheap alternative to this mess.

Was great, not so good anymore

I've been using 1Focus since quarantine as a way to help boost my productivity. At first, I really liked it and even considered buying a subscription. However, the most recent update severely limits the options that are available for free - most of it is now behind a paywall, such as scheduling blocks longer than 6 hours or scheduling blocks in advance. I'm sure that these features are extremely needed by many of the free users out there, and just putting them behind a paywall isn't going to incentivize them to buy the subscription; it might even make them stop using the app and look for an alternative. I get that the dev wants to make money, but I think that free users would be more willing to switch to the paid version if they weren't technically forced to do so by losing over half of the features they originally had. Overall, 1Focus was a great app before, now it's just mediocre unless you are willing to pay for basic features. Thank you for reading my rant.

Developer Response ,

Hi, usage statistics show that the most popular free usage pattern is to block certain websites/apps for 1-2 hours. Whereas durations beyond 6 hours and scheduling in advance were mostly just used to circumvent the paid recurring events feature.
