AI HTR/OCR and PDF managment

OVERVIEW OpenTranscribe transcribes handwritten and printed historical documents (images and PDFs) using an AI vision model that YOU choose. It is a "bring your own API key" tool: the app has no backend of its own and stores nothing on our servers. Everything, including your documents, transcripts, and settings, stays on your Mac. NO ACCOUNT REQUIRED There is no sign-up, sign-in, or OpenTranscribe account. There is nothing to log into, so no demo credentials are needed. NO PURCHASE REQUIRED: HOW TO TEST TRANSCRIPTION (step by step) The app needs one AI vision model, which you configure with an API key. We have provided a temporary key below so you can exercise the full app. Exact steps: Launch the app. On the first screen, click to choose a WORKING FOLDER. Any empty folder works (e.g. make a new folder on the Desktop and select it). Open Settings (gear icon). Under Providers, add "OpenRouter" and paste this key: Provider: OpenRouter API key: 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 Still in Settings, choose a model for that provider (like Gemini 2.5 Flash). Save/close Settings. Drag a folder that contains an image or PDF of a document onto the drop zone. Any photo of a handwritten or printed page works. There is one in the test-image folder in this package. Press Transcribe. The transcribed text appears in the split-pane editor. ALSO: the app works with a local, OpenAI-compatible server (e.g. Ollama) on localhost with no key at all. This is why it is fully usable without any paid service. The temporary key above is provided only to save you that setup. WHY EACH SANDBOX ENTITLEMENT IS PRESENT Outgoing network (network.client): to send the page image to the AI provider YOU configured (your chosen cloud endpoint, or a local server on localhost). The app only ever contacts the provider hosts the user selects, plus config.genea.ca for a model-catalog list (see below). User-selected file read/write + app-scope bookmarks: the user explicitly picks ONE working folder; the app reads the documents there and writes transcripts/exports back into it, and re-opens that same folder on the next launch without re-prompting. It never accesses files outside the folder the user grants. DATA, NOT CODE (Guideline 2.5.2) The only thing the app fetches from our domain (config.genea.ca) is a small JSON list of available model names, so the model picker stays current. No executable code is ever downloaded or run. All app logic ships inside the bundle. PRIVACY API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain, never in plain text. Document contents are sent only to the AI provider the user configures, and only when the user starts a transcription. We operate no server that receives user documents or transcripts.
