This was a generally stable and reliable app that would invariably and predictably time-out after 24 hrs. A simple reconnect is all it would take to reconnect for another 24 hrs. After the recent update, however, I am disconnected from my VPN multiple times per day and the connection (when it works) has resulted in a profound decrease in network speed. As an attorney, I rely on a VPN for nearly everything I do - which means that this failed update had seriously compromised my ability to do my job. I cannot understand and refuse to accept any excuse for why this update does not work. Heads should roll - that is how serious this is for those of us who have built our jobs around the ability to communicate through a VPN. I am now forced to abandon my VPN provider so that I can download a client that does not require openvpn. An inexcusable failure that no amount of blaming apple will excuse.UPDATE:After seeing multiple updates have been issued since my review, I decided to update and give openvpn another try. I am VERY pleased to report that the previously described problems above appear to be resolved, although time will tell. At this point I am quite pleased with the quick work that was done to make this app usable once again and recommend updating this app to the current version.
Great but missing one key feature for me

Set this up to remote back to my home network and as a way to encrypt data while I am away from home. Works super well, but the one feature I really miss from my previous paid service is the ability to mark certain networks as safe so that it doesn’t try to auto-connect. I want it to auto-connect when I am away, but not on my trusted network where my VPN is also hosted. A lesser gripe: It also took me a second to realize that, when importing the settings from a configuration file, I had open the file in Notepad on my computer first and manually change the IP listed to my DDNS URL instead, since this app won’t let me change it manually once the profile is imported for whatever reason. Otherwise, it’s been very responsive and stable. Overall, a solid app that I hope only keeps getting better with time.

Version 3.4.2 will not allow me to connect to devices on my home network. Prior to Version 3.4.2, everything was working great and I have made no changes on my end. Currently, with Version 3.4.2, I am able to establish the VPN connection with my VPN server (TP-Link ER7206 Router), but cannot access any devices on my home network. I deleted and then recreated the VPN profile on the ER7206. I deleted/reinstalled the app on both of my iOS devices and re-imported my profile. Nothing works. Just to make sure it is not a problem with my server, I connected remotely to my server with a PC using the Windows OpenVPN app version 3.4.3. I was able to connect and reach all of the devices on my home network. As a side note, I have an iPad and iPhone that are both running version 3.4.2. Both devices worked perfect until the 3.4.2 upgrade and now neither device will connect with devices on my network. Both devices simultaneously stopped working immediately after the 3.4.2 upgrade.Edit: Was finally able to get this working by modifying the compression line in my profile.The original line was: comp-lzo noI modified it to: comp-lzo adaptiveAfter making this modification, I re-imported the profile into both iOS devices. Immediately, I was able to connect with my VPN Server and reach all devices inside of my network.

***Update***Version 3.4.1 is broken. My iPad displays a black screen and I can no longer use the app. ***/Update***Second update this year that has cost me hours of down time. Using version 3.0.2 on a regular iPad is now a nightmare: All my OpenVPN profiles have been renamed in System Settings. I can no longer connect from the VPN tab. In the App, the line spacing only permits the display of 7 connections on a page (I have more than 30); why does there have to be a huge space between entries? Why waste another line by describing each one as OpenVPN profile? Why are they all in a random order? Why can't I change the order? The GUI is now an ergonomic nightmare of unusability. While the old GUI might have been dated, we don't have to revert to kindergarten colours and layout! The layout works ok-ish on an iPhone size device with maybe 4 choices, but even on the iPad mini, this is a disastrous retrograde step of barely navigable, wasted screen space. ***Update*** OK, I may have been a little harsh with 1* review, but I stand by it. I've managed to find a backup ipa file, and restored 1.2.9. There are so many ways that this upgrade could have been managed better: Since it's a free app, make a new “Version 3” app, offer a migration, explain the differences? Having looked at V3 again, before deleting this on my iPhone - it's only useful for displaying 2 configs! Happy to volunteer my time for UI testing, but there was nothing wrong with version 1. My reasons for sticking with v1, for now: Connect via the System VPN options Rename configs No 'nasty' names in System VPN options Cleaner interface on the App.
- Support a managed restricted mode enforced through mobile device management (MDM) platforms like Microsoft Intune or Jamf Pro.
- Block user actions including sign-in, sign-out, profile editing, and changing settings via MDM configurations.
- Enforce a permanent kill switch on the active profile to block unauthorized traffic automatically.
- Allow a one-time connection profile import before the restricted mode lock out takes effect.
- Fixed other minor issues.
