Ratings and Reviews
Not providing a good value for users
So I have led app dev teams and worked designing user interfaces for apps. This app probably cost at least $50k US to develop. So I get why he's charging $50 a year for it. But I don't think that is a good value for users, who are the most important opinions to listen to. For what it offers, and comparing this to other similar apps, the price is high. Hopefully he can update the pricing to he more in line with the value the app is offering.
If I want 5 premium wallpapers, I would probably subscribe for a month and then cancel. Most users don't want or need to have an annual subscription for this app. Maybe selling wallpaper credits and offering a weekly or monthly subscription would be a better way to monitize this app. Just my thoughts...
As for design, the user interface is a good start, but the level of polish is lacking. It needs to be refined and QA tested more for different devices. I think these issues can be easily fixed, so hopefully it gets better soon.
Could be much better.
I like the wallpapers, tho it’s hard to preview them since the bottom 3rd of the image is cut off by UI elements. I assume it’s to stop people from screenshotting to get past the paywall (which is overpriced imo). I’ve seen other developers have safe guards against screenshotting such as picsart which blacks the screen if you attempt to screenshot. That would be a much better solution that way we can actually preview the full screen.
I think a better monetization method would be to use credits. Get 1 credit for watching an ad and use it to download a picture is SD resolution. Or pay 99 cents for 5 HD credits. I think people would be much more willing to pay $1 for a wallpaper. That rather than an anti-consumer subscription that’ll make most of its money off of people forgetting they are subscribed.
All in all, it’s very polished minus the questionable preview UI and the aggressive monetization.
Not perfect but still good
I downloaded this app for one reason and that is because I’ve been a Marques Brownlee fan for many years. He is by far the best tech YouTuber in my opinion. I can understand the reviews complaining about the price, it is quite pricey. I think a per wallpaper price should also be available. I might spend a couple bucks on a wallpaper I really like, but would probably never buy a subscription to a service. With that being said the free versions are good enough on my small phone screen that barely anyone else will see. Watching a 30 second add is painless and free. If there was not a free option then I would agree with a low rating, but as is this app is perfectly fine. Maybe the team can add a per wallpaper price for those who would prefer that. Great work Marques you never disappoint.
