You are an author trying to finish kitschy paperback novels. Complete Westerns, Science Fiction, Romance or even a Crime Noir. Live the dream — and maybe pay the bills.

Word-building meets deck-building in the unique game Paperback. Players start with a deck of letter cards and wild cards. This is like their own bag of ‘scrabble’ tiles. With each hand of cards you make a word and score it. This score is how much money you have to purchase more cards for your deck. Collect cool letters with abilities, such as drawing more cards or double word score. Buy Novel cards to gain ‘fame’ points to win the game!

Editors’ Notes

The handsome boardgame has effortlessly made the leap to iPhone and iPad. We adored its stylish design and felt our vocabulary swelling thanks to the tantalizing word-making challenges. The ability to take on various tiers of AI opponents ensures we’re always challenged.

Great game, Weak app

My sister, brother and I were loving playing this game but now it’s broken! 😭Please fix. Also, even when it was working there were a few bugs I would suggest fixing. For one, there was no notification (in app or push-notification) to let us know when a person has played their turn. This meant that we either had to keep the game open indefinitely or had to keep opening the app every few minutes to see if it’s your turn yet. This was annoying although we came up with a solution by texting each other once we’d played our turn.
Another glitch was that there are invitations from games from 3 years ago. Would also be cool if there was a chat function… at least with those that are currently in your game. Finally, it would be great to be able to see how many players are currently online and a list of their profile names so we’d know who we could invite into a game.

It seems like this game is on its way out which is too bad because we actually had to PAY to use this app and have only been playing for several months (unlike other free games that are available for years). Hope it gets fixed soon

Fun game but the app is kinda janky

For example notifications do not work. So instead of being able to click on a notification that leads you into your current game you have to occasionally check if it’s your turn. The game has also froze on me a few times in the last 48 hours or so that I’ve had the app.
