Description

Pearla is a camera app crafted by professional photographers for photographers, hobbyists and anybody who wants to apply a unique and timeless style to their iPhone photos "straight-out-of-camera".

Pearla ships with film simulations inspired by some of the most famous film stocks and a powerful engine to customise the look with "film recipes".

If you like to maintain the ability to edit the photos you take with Pearla, you can set it to shoot Raw + JPEG. Pearla will apply your chosen film simulation or recipe to the JPEG, and the raw will retain the data from the sensor.

Improve your composition skills with non-destructive tools such as grids, guides, histograms, B&W Viewfinder, and more.

Shoot fully manually and set your camera to varying levels of automation: ISO, shutter speed, exposure compensation, white balance -- everything you'd need to get the perfect shot from the camera that's always in your pocket.

If all that's not enough, like DSLR and mirrorless cameras, Pearla's interface is customisable. Toggle portrait mode or composition tools, Pearla ships with shortcuts to most settings in its extensive settings page, making it easy to adapt your camera to your shooting style.

Subscription pricing and terms:
A subscription is required to use Pearla.
Pearla offers an auto-renewing yearly subscription at $14.99/year to provide you with unlimited access to all features while you maintain an active subscription.

Pearla requires an iPhone device running iOS 17 or later.

stvMal ,

It’s like an X100V app…

This app renders the best analogue / film look of any app I’ve ever tried (and I tried many). The film simulations are excellent, and I love that I can tweak them with recipes like Fuji cameras. Slog 3 still on an iPhone is a GAME CHANGER!
I wanted the app to embed my location data into my photos, but I couldn’t find a setting. I contacted support via the app and got a reply an hour later!! They informed me they created a feature request on my behalf, and they expect it to be available next month. 5 stars for the image quality, features, interface, and excellent customer support.

Developer Response ,

Dear stvMal,
Thank you for the kind words! We can indeed confirm that an upcoming release will enable saving location data in photos taken with Pearla!

Unstable junk

Subscription required junk that becomes a laggy mess just turning on a few features… and as soon as you click the photo button up pops a subscription.

You can get more out of the built in camera or any number of free and paid apps that don’t require a subscription at all. Save your money.

Developer Response ,

Dear Unhappy Monkey,

We test Pearla extensively on devices ranging from the iPhone XS (the oldest iPhone supported by iOS 17) to the iPhone 15 Pro (the most powerful iPhone currently available).

I can confirm that Pearla is stable on all supported devices. That said, as more people start using Pearla, we inevitably uncover "edge cases" that might result in sub-optimal performance.

The most efficient way to help us identify and resolve such cases is to contact us at support@houseofmars.io. We typically respond within hours.

Pearla is not "junk". It's the product of much hard work by people passionate about photography. It indeed offers features you will not find on any other app (free or paid).

You are correct that the paywall does not appear until you try to take a photo. We did that to allow new users to explore the interface and all available features and decide if Pearla is right for them. At that point, new users can activate a 3-day trial to assess the quality of the photos before paying.

Find happiness, dear monkey.
