"Once upon a time there came along an app that changed the world of storytelling..." Canadian Family
Also available for the iPhone and iPod Touch with identical functionality, “The Pedlar Lady of Gushing Cross” is a 3D animated interactive storytelling app featuring film-calibre, sophisticated 3D animated illustrations and text, original music, professional voiceover in English and Spanish, and evocative filmic sound effects.
The story, inspired by the age-old tale of a man who becomes rich through a dream, describes the journey of a poor pedlar woman who, guided by the shifting line between the real and the unreal, discovers a surprising and wonderful treasure.
The app, the first in Moving Tales’ “Classic World Tales” series, is a state-of-the-art digital ‘mash-up’ of methods from the worlds of ebook publishing, graphic novels, film and interactive media.
“The Pedlar Lady” also features randomly selected alternate views, sound effects and extras, so that no two viewings are alike. It offers sophisticated and dynamic typography, poetic language, and a Spanish option that allows viewers to listen to and see the story in Spanish and English, and even alternate between the two as the story is being experienced.
With “The Pedlar Lady”, Moving Tales establishes a truly original and engaging new world of storytelling.

"This is just amazing... If these folks can keep up this quality in future books, not only do they have a customer for life in me, but I also predict that this company will become the Pixar of animated e-books." Blogger Eolake, Lancashire, United Kingdom
"I don’t have an iPad and wasn’t in a hurry to get one, but after looking at your video, I simply need an iPad just so I can get your App!! I love where it can take stories for children and its just stunning to look at. I’m also a huge fan of Alan Clarkes character designs. Well done!" The story itself is good, though much shorter than I'd expected. For $7, you'd think it would last more than one bedtime. As an app, also, it was quite disappointing. It's missing even the most basic functionality. You can't pause it, for instance, or bookmark your spot. It doesn't even pause momentarily if you click on the menu (which covers the screen such that you can't see the story). Nor does it automatically resume where you were, if you actually close the app. Again, considering that so many apps range from free to about $5, for the price of this one I really expected more. If their other titles were about half the price, I might consider them. At the current price, though, I won't.
This book is absolutely awesome! The technology used to put this book together ingenious. I am 52 as well and enjoyed the book and all the animations. But most importantly I have an 11 year old son who has a reading disability, has a hard time reading sentences, comprehension and pronouncing words. Up until now the visual pictures have told him the stories, but the books like these that include not only awesome visuals but a voice that reads the sentences and words with expression, allows him to follow along, read the sentence and understand it in the right context and pronounce the words properly, even learning a new word or two along the way is a new wave of teaching kids how to read, particularly if there are signs of ADD, dyslexic and what I call understanding and comprehension but explaining in reverse german. Can't wait to see more books!
Stunning book, filled with rich details
I was hesitant at first to pay the $5 for this book, when there are so many others in the App Store at a lower price. However, after experiencing it firsthand, I have no regrets at all, and in fact I'm eagerly awaiting the chance to get the next one in the series.
From the opening credits, you can see this is a different kind of experience. Wonderful animation and style throughout, great voice acting, lush background music, and fun little touches like the letters scattering when tilting the iPad; it is clear that a lot of thought and care has been put into this effort.
Overall, this feels like so much more than a "book", and it makes me realize how conventional most of the other books are in the App Store. This is what reading on the iPad should be like!
