Here’s what experts in the field of psychology had to say about Personal Zen:

“Personal Zen brings cutting-edge research and well-established strategies for reducing anxiety and stress into the palm of your hand.”

Shannon M. Bennett, Assistant Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry, Weill Cornell Medical College

“Instantly engaging for adults and kids, Personal Zen is a rare example of science turned into fun in order to reduce stress and anxiety.”

Dr. Tony Simon, Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, University of California Davis

To lower your overall stress and anxiety our research shows that you should play a few times a week, for around 5-10 minutes at a time. Playing more (up to 40 minutes a week) has been shown to have potent stress- and anxiety-reduction effects, and playing less, even for only a few minutes, can boost your well-being and build resilience. A small time investment can lead to big pay-offs in well-being over time.

Take a break from stress and anxiety with Personal Zen. Use Personal Zen to prevent and lower stress and anxiety or use it when you're in the midst of a stressful situation. Explore Personal Zen and train your attention towards a more positive focus all the while experiencing the calming effect of traveling through this peaceful world.

To use Personal Zen, look for the sparkle to follow the friendly sprite (the smiling face) after it disappears. Don't try to capture the friendly sprite. Simply tap the sparkle quickly, then smoothly trace the path left in its wake. A jewel will appear, telling you where to focus your attention next. Don’t let the angry sprite divert your focus from finding the sparkle. It’s natural to sometimes trace the path a couple of times to achieve accuracy. The healing mechanics of Personal Zen will work no matter how fast you trace.

Decades of research shows that when we become anxious or stressed, we tend to focus too much attention towards the negatives and have less ability to see the positives in life. This habit of attention reduces our ability to cope effectively with stress and can create a vicious cycle of fear and worry.

Luckily habits can be broken and new habits learned! Personal Zen helps to short-circuit these negative habits of attention and allows the user to develop a more flexible and positive focus. By using Personal Zen just a few minutes a day, a few days a week, you can reduce feelings of stress and anxiety, strengthen well-being, and build resilience against the curve balls life sometimes throws.

You can reduce your stress and anxiety in as little as one sitting, and the more you play, the more you strengthen well-being and vaccinate yourself against the negative effects of stress.

Wish I could set time reminders

Wish I could set time reminders so I can check in at a set time each day. Otherwise a great app that helps me to relax at the end of the day.

My Everyday Tool!

At first I was thought the app was too simple and couldn’t possible have the promised effect but upon repeated use I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed how the app was reducing my stress levels without even noticing!
I have always been bad at managing my stress levels and friends have tried to suggest different apps and tool, all of which I have found too complex and time consuming. However, with Personal Zen it is simple, quick and very effective in reducing my stress levels in a short period of time! I now use the app at any necessary point whether it be before a meeting, on the train or whenever I feel most stressed!

I wanted to like this

The happy / mad faces come in & disappear way too fast. Is that on purpose? I end up just following where I see the flowers so maybe the faces are just meant to hit you subconsciously?

But my biggest issue is that when I trace, it doesn’t always work and this horribly annoying sound happens, indicating you’ve traced it incorrectly. Sometimes I end up having to try it 3 - 4 times before it moves on to the next one. That sound 3 times in a row plus having to trace /exactly/ right is so stressful! I tried turning the sound off but it’s just as stressful to keep swiping with nothing happening! I ended up tapping the screen hard in frustration after less than a minute.

Developer Response ,

Hi nicog10, you’re exactly right. The happy/mad-faced sprites do disappear quickly as it is a part of our clinically-validated algorithm. The purpose of this is to train your mind to divert your attention biases to the happy-faced sprite as its location indicates where the sparkles will appear. With your finger on the sparkles, you should be able to trace the path for a successful swipe.

That said, we appreciate you bringing attention to the tracing issue you’re experiencing. We’d love to hear from you and any additional feedback you may have about our app. We want to continue to improve Personal Zen and help more people reduce their stress and anxiety. Please email us at
