Engage in learning science and math with the award-winning PhET simulations! Whether understanding atoms, exploring energy, or mastering multiplication, there is a sim for every learner. Perfect for at home, in class, or on the road, this app delivers all PhET HTML5 sims (over 70 sims) in one easy-to-use package.
Developed by experts at the University of Colorado Boulder, PhET sims are used by millions of students every year. The PhET iPad app delivers these exclusive features:
• Offline play: learn on the bus or at the park without a WiFi connection.
• Favorites: pick your favorite sims and create your own custom collection.
• Easy sorting: find the right sims for you.
• Fullscreen: maximize your screen real estate for optimal sim exploration.
• Automatic updates: get the latest HTML5 sims as soon as they are released.
PARENTS: Find out how much your child loves the learning experience through the lens of discovery.
TEACHERS: Have your favorite HTML5 sims at your fingertips, even without internet access.
ADMINISTRATORS: The PhET app is optimized for school use, so your teachers will be seamlessly up to date.
STUDENTS: Tell your parents and teachers there’s an app that makes learning about science and math more exciting - and it’s only 99 cents!
Note: The app does not include PhET’s Java or Flash sims. In addition, although we are currently working on improving the accessibility of our sims, most of the sims included in this app do not include keyboard navigation or screen reader access. As accessible sims become available, they will be updated within the app.
Proceeds from the app support the development of more HTML5 sims. On behalf of the PhET team and the students whose lives you have helped improve — Thank you!
- Support for iPhones
- Updated user interface and filtering
- New list view to find sims more easily
Ratings and Reviews
Love this app for my kids and my students
It is one of the few apps that anyone from young children to adults can use equally. Each simulation works with a scientific concept (physical, chemical or biological) and allows for all levels of understanding and learning. I have used the website in class with my college students but use the app exclusively at home with my children. It is almost like a game for younger kids which aquatints them with the simulation. Once they've played around with it, you can start to introduce the concepts. This app can be used in the classroom as part of a inquiry activity, as a demonstration by the instructor, or part of an experiment. It can also be used at home for kids to explore new ideas or be a support if a student does not understand a concept in his or her homework. I highly recommend this app for all ages to introduce scientific concepts. For teachers there are resources online including activities or how to use it in the classroom. I love PhET simulations a lot, Follow them on Twitter or Facebook to hear about their newest simulations !
Careful, your kids might fall in love with STEM!
I have used PhET simulations in the classroom for years, and I love how they portray difficult to teach concepts with such effective interactive visualizations - and this platform makes them especially accessible for younger kids. The move to HTML5 has been fantastic, and I am excited that app purchases help fund more of these sims to work on iPad. I particularly appreciate the user experiences of the app, and the ability to run offline. Kids especially love discovering and playing with concepts (particularly Balancing Act, Fraction Matcher, Area Builder, and John Travoltage!)
Outdated Technology & Lack of Support
Our son’s K12 public school has been requiring he interact with your simulations as part of his science curriculum. I’m shocked that all of your simulations are still in Java, and even more egregious is that some are only supported on Windows. All we have is in old MacBook running the current MacOS and had to bend over backwards to install the Java Runtime - this is from when I was in undergrad. To run the Plate-Tectonics simulation in particular you need Windows. WHY?! So I turn to the link at the bottom of the page for the Plate-Tectonics simulation to download the iOS app instead. We paid for it, and the simulation isn’t even available! I’m just as frustrated by our Public School that they are requiring educational apps that are universally supported.
Developer Response ,
We are working diligently to convert our simulations to HTML5. Unfortunately, we are a nonprofit project and must raise funding for this very expensive process. Proceeds from your purchase of the iOS app go directly towards this effort. We try to make clear in the app description that our iOS app only includes the HTML5 simulations, so we apologize for any confusion or expectation you may have had that all simulations would be available.
If you have questions about why certain simulations have certain requirements (or any other questions), please email us at email@example.com.
Finally, we understand your frustration. Nobody wishes to convert all our simulations to HTML5 more than our project!!
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
