PhotoSweeper will help you if:

• You edit your photos with programs like Photoshop, Capture One, etc. and make backups just in case.
• You have photos scattered across external hard drives and local drives, in your Apple Photos, Lightroom Classic, or Capture One libraries.
• Your photo collection is a mess or you just want to free up disk space by deleting unnecessary photos.

Features

• Easy photo search
Just drag and drop folders from your Mac so PhotoSweeper can find all the photos inside. Add more photos from your Photos library, Capture One, or Lightroom Classic through the Media Browser window.

• Flexible comparison settings
Powerful multi-settings for easy search for duplicates, similar photos, series of shots. The program finds duplicate photos, even edited in external programs such as Photoshop, regardless of the size or format of the image.

• “Side to Side” comparison
Find duplicates between two groups of photos. This allows you to compare the contents of two folders or find photos that are similar to a single one.

• High speed and quality
PhotoSweeper was designed as a tool for extremely fast comparison of a huge number of photos. Advanced technologies and unique algorithms make searching for duplicates incredibly fast and provide excellent comparison results.

• Efficiency
You can regroup the results without comparing the photos again by changing the level of matching using the slider. Using a cache makes the following comparison much faster.

• Automatic marking of duplicates
Manually mark the photos you want to get rid of, or use the Auto Mark feature to automatically mark duplicates based on a list of rules that you can customize to suit your setup needs.

• Comfortable reviewing of results
PhotoSweeper provides 3 modes for reviewing the results: "One by One", "Face-to-Face" - one or two large photos with the ability to mark with a single click of the mouse, "All in One" - all groups of duplicates in one list.

• Great photo browsing
PhotoSweeper is also a modern photo browser with built-in metadata photo search, Quick Look preview, Info Panel with detailed photo description including histogram and image metadata (EXIF, IPTC, etc.).

Just absolutely brilliant

I had a specific problem that I needed solved: Identical duplicates with unique metadata that completely fools any less sophisticated programs. I had added most of my paper photos to my library by scanning using an HP feeder scanner for standard size photos. Problem #1: some packs had been ordered with duplicate copies from CVS. After scanning each duplicate has its own metadata and slightly different digital characteristics. That was 2010. Then in 2017 I did it again (dont ask why). Now I was at 144,000 photos with up to 4 copies each with unique metadata. Crisis! First run with PhotoSweeper on basic settings eliminated 40,000 exact duplicates. Then using the advanced features that search for identical color balance in the photo. That took out another 10,000. The program nearly always defaulted to the best shot (highest megapixels, and some other AI algorithms). I checked 100 of the duplicates at random and only found 1 photo where I would have kept a different image. On my 2017 iMac with 64gb ram the first run took nearly 10 hours running in the background, but I was able to continue WFH while it did its thing. The coder of this program should receive a nobel prize (maybe the noble prize too)!

Wow! Best clean up tool for photo libraries I’ve ever come across

This tool does a great job of finding duplicates, not just exact duplicates, but photos that have been rotated, resized, or are even just very similar. It also has a great set of default rules for figuring out which image to keep automatically, which can save hours. But what most impressed me about this app, is how fast it is! I have two very large libraries of photos, about 45K in iCloud Photo Library, and another 60K or so in Lightroom. Any operation that involves scanning so many photos usually can bring either of those apps to a crawl, sometimes waiting days for an operation to complete (even when the entire library is on SSD). But PhotoSweeper just rips through those thousands of files so fast, it’s unreal. I think Apple and Adobe could maybe learn a few things from this software, I was totally not expecting this kind of performance from a third party app.

Lifesaver

Ivan Prymak should receive a hero reward for this application. It works beautifully. So, thank you to the developer for that!!

I use Mac Photos but I prefer to scan my Mac folder direcrtly before importing it to a new Photos library. The application can scan a library directly, too. I love that I can order which criteria or "rules" to choose for deleting photos. I can even prioritize which folders to preserve over others. This application has saved me hundreds of hours of sorting, and I am no longer so annoyed when iCloud seems to duplicate photos on its own.

Occasionally the application crashes, and I do not know why. The error reports are being sent to Apple automatically, so I hope the issue is resolved. In th emeantime, it's still the best among the applications I have tried. And who knows why Mac Photos cannot even offer its own duplicate finding search function.
