PhotoTangler 4+

I love how the program blends the edges. I have not been able to find a program like Microsoft's beta 2008 Collage Maker. This one is close. However, like many others report, it freezes randomly and you lose your work.

This app is easy to use and offers a different take on collages than many of the apps out there. It basically only does one thing, but it does it well and for a reasonable price. I had no problems opening it or using it. I couldn't get the images from the file systems bar they have on the side, but it's easy to drag in the photos you want to use from a source like iPhoto or a Finder folder. There are 9 different blending options to play with. My only complaint is that I have not yet figured out how to export as a JPEG (the default is .png) or to save at a higher resolution for printing, but that may be me and not the app. If I figure that out, I will up the rating to 5 stars.

I nearly didn’t purchase this App because of the bad reviews about it crashing. I need this feature for website development so I checked their website for more information to find that they had fixed the crashing errors. Reviewers, often full of testosterone, love to be extremely harsh. Frequently I have found their criticism totally unfounded. Maybe the App was in bad shape previously but seems to be working well now with no sign of crashing whatsoever.

For such an inexpensive App, it was worth the risk especially as one reviewer received a refund from Apple. Nothing ventured, nothing gained but I think it is a great App and works as advertised. If you need this App, go for it is my advice. At the price, it's a bargain. I am using a Macbook Air running 10.8.2.
