Pinpoint Weather - KDVR & KWGN 4+

So far this looks like a “polarizing” app. You either love it or you hate it. As of today I am in the “almost love it” group. There is a lot of “good to know” information, but I would hate having the responsibility of keeping it all updated and perfectly accurate all of the time. Can anyone really do that knowing that Mother Nature is the puppet master on the other side of the curtain playing games with you? Be happy. This is an excellent app.

Dear Pinpoint Weather app developers: a key feature is suddenly not working. You can no longer click on the lightning bolt icons on the radar map to see the time and type of the lightning strike. Please fix this ASAP! That feature is what made this weather app truly the best.

This app used to be best the Denver weather app by a long shot because: (1) the precipitation radar was more precise and accurate than every other weather app I’ve tried; (2) it would real-time add a lightning bolt icon to the radar map in the exact location of the strike; and (3) you could click on any lightning bolt icon on the radar map to see the time of the strike and the type of strike (e.g., cloud-to-cloud, etc.).

Numbers (1) and (2) are still true, so it’s still a good weather app, but (3) is no longer true. You can no longer click on a lightning bolt icon to see the time or type of strike. I can’t imagine the app developers disabled this feature on purpose. Developers, please fix this ASAP!

I’ve learned to make this very useful. I love that I can select, for example, precipitation, clouds, and temperature from the menu (3 vertical dots) at the bottom right of the screen. Then with the menu still open I can go to overlays at the bottom and select storm track and lightning and have what I’ll call fans show on the radar view. Those fans are storms. Touch the vertex and the severity of the storm is displayed including the size of hail if appropriate. It’s incredible to have this in the palm of my hand on a free app.
