Great game, few addition ideas
I’ve never been a fan of digital card games, but this one’s honestly a blast and I can’t stop playing. Visuals are amazing and the game plays spectacular.
I have three suggestions for the developers, if they read this.
The first is to add some transitions or cinematic before and after a fight. It feels a little bland cutting straight from your boat on the sea to a fight, and then from your finishing blow to the loot screen. Simply making your final hit slow motion would make each fight feel a little more important, or giving some quick, dramatic cinematic at the start would give each fight a little more depth to it.
Secondly, I think some of the combat sounds could be swapped for something more suiting. I haven’t played the entire game yet, but I feel like the gun shots could have more of a crack to them, and the smoke bomb, punch, shield, etc. could have a little more individuality.
Lastly, (although this could come later, I haven’t played all the way through), I personally want to see a little more individuality for the players experience. What I mean by that is adding some dialogue, or letting the player recruit a few pirates to join their adventure.
First off I’d like to say that I like pirates. If you like pirates you will enjoy this game. The game has excellent music and an interesting art style. To me it’s presentation seems very polished. I will say that it is not an easy game. It is very challenging which pretty much keeps me engaged. I do have a few complaints. Maybe it’s just me but there a few cards that I can’t seem to use properly. An example would be the one card that says if you get attacked by an enemy this turn you gain armor. This card never seems to work for me as the cards always disappear after your turn and before enemies attack. There are a few other examples but I can’t seem to name them off hand.
I do not think the in app purchases are bad in this game. I have purchased upgrades and gold to get new pirates and I will continue to support the developer because the game is enjoyable. If the developer reads this review I would like to request additional content. Please add more areas and playable pirate types. Also I would highly recommend getting the package which includes the card called “demon blade”. This card becomes very powerful and it got me through to stage 3, which I died very quickly in while playing the blade master pirate.
All in all, I feel like this game is awesome and I hope the developer continues to add new content.
Maritime Slay the Spire
I have played many turn based games in my time and this is one of the most enjoyable I’ve encountered. I never review and I never consistently play mobile games but this game got me to do both. I am by no means a mobile gamer but I think this game is very deserving of 5 stars. Great fluid combat, interesting cards and mechanics, and interesting character choices make this game great. I will say this game is not for those who do not like to grind. It is also not for those who do not like IAP. I think this game deserves the cash I’ve spent and I will continue to support it as long as it is being supported by the developers. The only complaint I have is that the “AP” system seems kind of tacked on. The only real use I can see for it is limiting the amount of gold you have late game so that you don’t have a near limitless supply. Even then, it feels like a very unnecessary addition to the game. From a realism standpoint, even though this game isn’t very realistic, it makes no sense to me why your ship would take damage to the point that it sinks from doing what it was built to do, sail! Overall great game and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a grindy mobile game to sink some free time into
